Armed Forces / Battle of Waterloo soldier - John Donald
« on: Saturday 06 April 19 18:12 BST (UK)  »
I've just found the military discharge record of my 3x great-grandfather, John Donald.  The record states that he served at Waterloo and was given an additional two years service credit on top of his actual service time of 12 years and 93 days. Does anyone have information on why that would be?  Also interested in any other information on his military service.

Here are the details on his discharge record.
Name: John Donald
Birth town: Monymusk, Abendeenshire, Scotland
Enlisted: 12 August 1806 at age of 21 years old
Discharged: 17 November 1818 at age of 33 years old
Regiment: Gordon Highlanders - 75th & 92nd Foot

Banffshire / Prison record - George Chalmers & Isobel Simpson
« on: Monday 25 March 19 17:53 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to confirm the people on the following record.  The names match by gg-grandmother, Isobella Simpson, born 17 Dec 1827, Marnoch and her husband, George Chalmers, born 15 Oct 1822, Marnoch.  They were convicted of assault on January 1857 with their ages listed as: Isobel 28 and George 29.  Based upon their birth record it should be: Isobel 29 and George 34.  Since this is a court record I would assume that the ages would be correct.  Are these the same people or a different couple?

I need some help identifying the uniform in the attached photo of my g-grandfather, John Wright born 29 Nov 1850 in Marnoch, Banffshire. The backside is printed with the name of the photographer "W. Sullivan, Newcastle on Tyne" who was in business at this location 1870-1871.

Was this police uniform of Newcastle police or was only the photographer from there?

I also added a close-up image. The helmet medallion appears to be 2 birds facing each other. The collar appears to be number 129 or something close to that.
