Louth / Need help with reading Bap. record, St. Peter's, Drogheda
« on: Thursday 22 August 19 21:43 BST (UK)  »
I could use another set of eyes!! I have gone through the record twice and still cannot find James on the April 1795 baptism records.

The transcribed record has both James Callan and Michael Callan's baptism for April 1795.  Parents are Richard Callan and Mary Moonan.  There is another Callan right under Michael's line but the parents are different.

I thought James was born in 1785 - I searched that whole year and did not see him there either.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Dublin / Balbriggan, Dublin, Patrick Dougherty family
« on: Tuesday 30 July 19 23:19 BST (UK)  »
Parents:  Patrick Dougherty and Mary Dalton. I found dates of baptismal records of their children from:
Baptism Place:  Balbriggan, Dublin, Ireland
Parish Variants:  Balrothery, Balrothery and Balscadden, Balscadden
Diocese:  Dublin
for:
Elenor – Sep 6, 1799
James -  Jan 24, 1802
Susan – Feb 24, 1804
Patrick – Mar 11, 1810

I am most interested in Susan Dougherty (1804 Ireland) who married James Callan (b. Ireland ~1785 and died in Dec 13, 1869 in Philadelphia).

I don't know when or where they were married. Their children listed below were born in Ireland. The only US records I have on Susan and James Callan lists them as parents on the death certificates for their 3 children in Philadelphia PA

Edward A. Callan (1821-1891)
Mary Callan (1824-1891)
James Callan (1840-1906)

The Common Room / Need help in finding where to start search in Ireland
« on: Tuesday 19 February 19 23:29 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping that someone here can direct me to where I can start my search.

I am trying to locate my Irish ancestor Edward Callen and his wife Isabella (mn Connell) and have nothing prior to the 1850 United States Census to go on other than they were born in Ireland.

According to that US census all of their children were born in Pennsylvania, the oldest being 12yo, so they would have been in the US by ~1838.

There is an older male that is 23yo, James Cullen which I am thinking is probably a brother to Edward and states he was also born in Ireland.  The census is transcribed with James as Cullen and Edward as Callon.  (Edward’s name looks like Cullen to me).  I search with all - Callen/Callan/Cullen/Callon.

I have located the church baptisms in Philadelphia PA for the two younger females – Margaret and Mary but no other information to go on.

The last attachment below is a sample of what the US 1830 and 1840 census looks like – no help with family names.

Mayo / County Mayo. Catherine Ryan. Father: Martin Ryan; Mother:Bridget O'Connor.
« on: Tuesday 29 January 19 18:11 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for birth certificate to identify correct date for Catherine Ryan.

I have two dates of birth (one from marriage license application in Philadelphia, PA showing April 7, 1880 and Mayo, Ireland given as place of birth).

The second one on her death certificate in Philadelphia, PA from November 11, 1962 (given by an informant showing birth as April 20, 1881 and listing her parents as Martin Ryan and Bridget O'Connor).

I have no other records prior to her marriage to Bernard Carr on August 5, 1903.  Any help is appreciated.

The Common Room / County: Yorkshire. William Rhodes/Mary Ann Walton
« on: Monday 07 January 19 18:14 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the parents of Mary Ann Walton who is listed as granddaughter on the 1851 England Census for William Rhodes.  The only daughter listed is Jane Rhodes 16yo who according to the census is married to Dennis the 10yo son of William Rhodes??  Most likely she isn't the mother of Mary Ann Walton.

There is another census from 1841 showing William Rhodes with an 18yo daughter Sarah and I am trying to find out if Sarah married a Walton and is the mother of Mary Ann.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
