United States of America / Jospeh Rice - Philadelphian Theatre Owner?
« on: Thursday 26 December 19 17:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone! I posted a little bit earliet this year for assistance on help with finding out more about the Riano brothers and greatly appreciate the assistance, as grest strides were made! So thank you.

My current headscratcher involves some information regarding Irene Riano's father. I've linked the old thread page for reference.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=806577.72

I've kept coming across that her father is Joseph Rice, a theater owner from Philadelphia on both wikia and find a grave and a few other sites. Now i know these can be edited and such but i have not been able to find anything regarding him in my research as i have little to go off on aside from these blurbs and the fact he worked in show business and it fits with Irene's background in entertainment.

I've come across one issue that she may not be related to this man and was actually born in ohio in 1874 and died in 1940 in Los Angelas, California. Her maiden name may have been Couples but that's been up for debate. Im curious if I'm on the right track with Couples or if Joseph Rice is in fact her father and there's a mix up of indfomation?

Any assistance would be appreciated to get me on the right track. Thank you as always!

United States of America / Samuel J. Urquhart - Alabama - Bloodline?
« on: Monday 11 February 19 16:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone!

I'm having a little bit of trouble tracing back my fiances' roots and want to make sure I'm on the right path. Their family has claims to be descendants of the Scottish Urquhart clan, with her mother having done a little bit of research and the oral history going back a few generations, meeting some very distant cousins and so forth.

What I've been trying to find is that "correlation" between when their family began. My research and information has been that it may be from Samuel J. Urquhart (JUL 1842: Alabama - AUG 1885 : Early County, Georgia, USA ) who was a slave. Now this is probably all but impossible but I'm trying to see if Samuel was the illegitimate child Alexander Urquhart: AUG 1799(?): Georgia -  3 OCT 1864: Bethel Baptist, Clay County, Georgia). It goes from the family being Mulatto (mixed) to the  Scottish lineage of Urquhart.

I know I'm probably way off, and that the family tree can abruptly end with the slave trade history but any assistance would be appreciated! Thank you as always!

Armed Forces / American Civil War Assistance

Hi Everyone!

Hope this is the correct forum and would appreciate it anyone could assist if possible. I'm trying to find any information on two of my ancestors  who appeared to have signed up and registered for service. Their names are Sylvester (abt 1831) and Francis Mahan (about 1836) from Pennsylvania.

I was only able to find this record enclosed with their names. I know their brother, Charles T. Mahan (1830 - 1863) served in the 114th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry and died at Chancellorsville but didn't see anything on them specifically just in case. I was hoping to see if there was any way to go off their recruitment records only and see if I could at least get a general direction to go in terms of their regiment or where they may have ended up.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

United States of America / History of the Riano Brothers / Dobbins
« on: Monday 14 January 19 21:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there!

Was wondering if anyone could help me with some further details. I recently found out that several of my great uncles had been apart of a vaudeville / acrobatic act called either 'The Four Rianos" or 'The Riano Brothers". Three of them runaway to join when they were young. I haven't been able to bring up anything aside from a similarly named act but I'm not sure if they are related or not. Here's what I have so far.

Parents: James L. Dobbins / Mary A. Cryan

- Francis Dobbins / 1879– BIRTH ABT 1879 • Oswego CO NY/ DEATH New York City, New York
- Robert Dobbins - ABT 1864 • Dutchess CO NY
- William Dobbins - ABT 1873 • Sullivan CO NY / 30 JULY 1942

I also know Francis had a daughter named Renee who was an actress on Broadway and then went to Hollywood as a character actor. Another aspect I'm really curious about. I don't have anything on her.

I have only been able to find obscure scans of newspaper articles without any reference to date / publishings, but I'm really intrigued and was hoping anyone would be able to assist me in this endeavor if possible. Thanks!
