Europe / Marriage and/or death in Italy
« on: Tuesday 20 August 13 20:10 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if it possible to research family history in Italy? Giuseppe Felino MAGGIORA was born in Refrancore, Asti, Italy in the 1800s. At some point he married Rosa QUAGLINO also from that area. I cannot find such information. Later they emigrated to Argentina but I cannot find that information either. Later they returned to Italy, Refrancore, where they eventually died and I am unable to find that information too.
Is there anyone who is able to point me in the right direction to search for these facts, please?
Thank you,
David

World War One / Relative killed in the First World War
« on: Friday 28 December 12 17:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to find some information about my Great Uncle Harold who was killed in the 1st World War at Mons (I think) . I have some information which I include and I should be very grateful if someone could explain what it means. There appears to be something about medals(?) with an asterisk. I think from what I see, he was killed on 30/10/1914 (?)
Would it be possible to find out where he was when he was killed? How he was killed? What he was doing when he was killed? I would like to visit the site of the battle.
I think he is buried at Ypres and I assume it would not be too difficult to find his grave stone(?) Again, I would like to visit and assume also that his name will be written somewhere(?)
Any help or advice would be most welcome.
Thank you.

Other Countries / British Indian relatives
« on: Friday 09 September 11 13:39 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone direct me where to look for British people who were born in India.
Frederick Walter Arburthurt Wells was born in 1882 at Sultanpur. In 1939 he arrived in England by sea with his wife, May, and they settled here after a career in the British Indian Forces.
Is there any way to find out when and where he married May and whether they had any children in India?
Thank you.

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Fatal Accident
« on: Thursday 05 May 11 11:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
My uncle Ernest Baines lived in Wolvey and died in 1953 on a motorbike accident. I believe that this would have been reported in the Coventry Evening Telegraph at the time.
I understand that microfiche of this newspaper is kept in Coventry Library/Records Office.
Is there anyone who could look this up for me and let me have a copy of the report please?
Thank you,
David

World War Two / What do these letters mean?
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
My father was with REME during the war serving in, among other places, Germany. I have his records but cannot understand them!
For instance, what do these mean?
A.O.E.R.
"Posted and taken on the strength of 15th A.A. W/Shop Coy."
Att'd 7th A.A. W/S Coy.
Attached to 20 A.A. W/S/Coy.
Posted to Control Commission for Germany (B.C) Army Div senior 1227.
TOS. 81 W/S/ Control Unit.
TOS. 826 Armd Tps W/S.
TOS 27 Armd Bde W/S

I don't know what any of these mean.
Do you know what 'Rushton Hall' was for?
He got a medal. How could I find out if he collected it?
Thank you
David
