World War One / Thomas McDonald - WW1 Pension record
« on: Wednesday 29 July 20 11:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi i wanted to know if anyone can give any explanation for some of the information given on my great grandfathers pensions record.

Here's what i have been told so far...

"The military pension document has masses of info but much of it very faded. The bottom of the document says PTO and i believe I can also see through the document that there is writing on the other side. It may be worth finding the original to get that other side.

The general gist of that document is that in the years 1920 to 1929 there was frequent correspondence between the ministry and Thomas about changes to his pension. There is much (clear) military/medical jargon which I do not recognise, but perhaps if you post it on a military website you may get some clarification"

I wanted to know if anyone can help me with an estimated age for the Young man in this picture and give a possible year it could have been taken? I believe he is possibly silver war badge following discharge from WW1?

I found loads of unmarked images in my grandmothers home, Sheffield, England, UK.

Possibly family names are Mackender or McDonald

Armed Forces / Thomas McDonald - WW1 Records
« on: Monday 08 July 19 17:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi, i am currently trying to trace my family tree for the last year. I'm currently looking for my great grandfather. I'm trying to find something that would indicate his exact birth date or place.

Here's some key points i have found so far, i haven't included birth of children as I'm not sure if these will help me find what I'm after n Please also see the attachments.

Born between 11th March 1888-1890

Married 1912 - Occupation - Soldier, residing at The Barracks. (Sheffield)

I have also been able to find a few military records here's what i found...
Year of birth - 1889
Enlist date - 1/12/1910
Date of discharge - 12/2/19 (age 20)
Regtl No - 63470
Unit - Royal Field Artillery - Driver - Badge number B173101

Died at Ministry Of Pensions Hospital Chapel Alerton, Leeds.
10 June 1942 Age 53.
Cause of death - Carcinoma of lungs resulting from inhalation of nerve irritant gas inhaled on war service.

I believe some of his military records maybe part of the burnt records and therefore missing. I have applied to the MOD for his service records in WW2 with the Royal Defence Corps in Ilford. I'm hoping this might indicate a birth date or place of birth.

In the mean time i wounded if i posted the documents i have manged to find already if maybe someone can spot something that maybe i am missing?

I wanted to know if anyone could help me date the photo attached?

I am trying to trace my great grandfather and he married my great grandmother while he was a solider in the local barracks in Sheffield.

I found the image attached in my grandmothers home after she passed away. I believe this could be him but cannot date the photograph.

Please feel free to colour the image :)

Thank you in advance.
