Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help making sense of marriage in Latin
« on: Tuesday 05 July 22 18:15 BST (UK)  »
This is a marriage entry in Latin from Essex 1539

I initially read it as Wilelmus Ayery son of Johannes Hankyn...
Johanna Schelton dau of Benede Myghtyngall...
then realised that the father's surnames don't match the pair getting married. Could they be step-children? Or does it say something else entirely? My knowledge of Latin is almost nil so I would be very grateful for a translation.
Thanks

Can someone help me with the word in-between filia and Johannus

i.e. Johanna Sudbery filia ???? Johannis Sudbery baptized 26 Oct....

The entry above also mentions a child of Johannis Sudbery so I am wondering if it means "the above JS" or "the said JS"?

Any help much appreciated.

Please can someone help me with this phrase from an Essex parish register approx 1550s.
The bit I am trying to read is the phrase above the word Baptizati.
I have included the baptism below it for reference to the writing style.
Thanks

I am unable to figure out what the father's given name is in this baptism of Gilbert Kinder. It is from 1655 in Essex. At first I thought it must be Hry (Henry) but having read a few more pages the first letter appears to be a W - see the last line of the clip attached in which we have Henry Walch showing the difference between the writer's H and W. There are several baps where this given name is written and it is always written the same way with a dot in the loop.

Any help would be appreciated.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help needed with 1752 burial record please
« on: Friday 13 September 19 09:59 BST (UK)  »
This is a 1752 burial entry from South Weald in Essex.

The entry I am trying to decipher is in the middle of this clip and begins "July 16 The wife of ..."

There is a word in the middle that I definitely can't read and I am not totally sure of the rest. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Hi

I wondered if someone could help me read this 1719 marriage record please?

I can read 17 May Massie Palmer ?????? of St Bryds par(ish) and Sarah Gillbard spinster of St Gyles parish Cripplegate London.

The bit I am having trouble with is (I think) his occupation. The same word seems to appear in the record below. In later records, when his sons became apprentices he was described as a Merchant Taylor.

Technical Help / Unable to open WinREG 3
« on: Monday 05 August 19 12:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I recently decided to start transcribing again after a break and tried to open WinREG but it would not open.

The message I got was:

Exception – WinREG/3 for Windows
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID{CF4CC405-E2C5-B3CE-5E7582D8C9FA

I have tried uninstalling WinREG from my PC and downloading it again but it still doesn’t open and I get the same message.

I have downloaded Windows 10 onto my PC since I last used WinREG so this might be something to do with it.

Has anyone any ideas how to solve this problem please?

Technical Help / How to change a lot of .aspx files to .jpg in windows 10 please?
« on: Tuesday 30 July 19 11:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Long ago I downloaded a lot of files on an old Mac and they have the extension aspx. In order to facilitate file-sharing I now want to change them to jpg.
I can do this individually in Irfanview but I have at least 1000 to do and it is very time-consuming.
Can anyone suggest a quicker way please? I am now using a PC with windows 10.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Wording of 1570 Essex baptism COMPLETED
« on: Friday 11 January 19 20:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Could I please have opinions on the wording of this 1570 Essex baptism? I am curious as to the words in the middle between the father's name and the baptism date. The date is 2nd Feb - could be a reference to the Presentation (Candlemas)? I still can't understand the actual words though.
