Armed Forces / Interwar sporting medals
« on: Friday 21 June 19 15:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi all!
I know my great-grandad was active with the Manchester Regiment 1st. Bat. during the interwar years 1925-1928 and I know this because we have sporting medals from this period with Pte. James Walsh on them, along with the regiment and year. We also know from family stories that he was in the army around this time, but unfortunately we have no further information! I don't have his regiment number or whether he was in WW1. We only have the medals to go by. Does anyone know where I can find out more information on sporting medals that were handed out during army time? He received boxing, hockey and riffle medals. He was with the 1st Bat. Manchester Regiment who also went out to the Rhine in Germany at this time. By the way, I don't have his birth details either, and have no information on his parents, so when I look up WW1 documents, I have no idea if any of the James Walsh's listed are him  :(

Thanks for any suggestions!!

The Common Room / Hospital Records online?
« on: Tuesday 28 May 19 20:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I have a death certificate from 1949 which states that one of my ancestors died in St. Mary Islington Hospital. Does anyone happen to know if any of these records would be kept online somewhere? I have tried digging for them but to no avail. I live in Canada and won't be able to go over to England for some time and was hoping to view online instead of going to the National Archives (if that's where they are kept). Would these records be released from 1949? Or is it too early?

Thanks in advance, Katrina

The Common Room / Birth Certificate U.D. meaning?
« on: Friday 24 May 19 14:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
New to this forum! I wanted to ask if there is any special meaning to the initials U.D. that is written under the address of where someone was born in a few of my ancestor's birth certificates.

For example:
76 Mayes Road U.D.
(this is in Wood Green, Edmonton)

Does the U.D. mean anything specific?

Thanks for the help!
