Essex / FOAY and MANSELL
« on: Monday 18 January 10 21:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
William Henry FOAY married (1) Amelia Elizabeth MANSELL (daughter of William and Amelia nee Snead) in 1892
They had 3 childlren that I am sure of-
Maude Elizabeth(remained spinster), Gladys Amelia(died young), and May Adelaide(married John Oliver Claudius Hill).
I am unsure about whether Amelia Ann (b 1893 d 1894) is one of their daughters.
Amelia Elizabeth died in 1907 and in  1909 William Henry married her sister Matilda.
They had 3 children-Ethel Matilda,  Hilda V  and  Doris R(she died as infant).

Does anyone have any information on  Ethel and Hilda?

Thanks and cheers
Vicki

Berkshire / Bodley the Builder? 1894ish
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 19:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can tell me if there are electoral rolls or business rolls for New Windsor area?
Apparently Oliver Bodley (with wife and daughter) was living there for some years in the 1890s.
His nephew  John O C Hill was born at 10 Oak Cottage, Arthur Road, New WIndsor in 1894 .
This was either Oliver's house or maybe the Hill family were actually living there rather than staying with Oliver.
Is there any suggestion as to how I can find who owned/rented 10 Oak Cottage at that time?
And if it was Oliver- how do I find employment information etc. By 1901 census he was in Wandsworth.

Any suggestions welcomed...thanks....Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)

Sussex / Ebenezer BODLEY at St Margarets Lower St Pulborough
« on: Thursday 19 February 09 20:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
In the 1911 census Ebenezer and Esther Bodley were servants to a retired clergyman- Robert Jamblin. Ebenezer was a waiter/gardener and Esther was the cook.

IS there anyone who can give me information as to where it is? I have tried googling (not my strong point I may say) without success.

Was it a church? or simply a house ?

Would like to find out some work history for the Bodleys. Ebenezer (born 1860)died in 1949 and his death was registered in Surrey North. Have not traced Esther's(born 1868) death yet.

Many thanks...
Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)

Essex Lookup Requests / Coronation Gardens Cemetery lookup:
« on: Tuesday 10 February 09 21:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I would like a look up please in the Coronation Gardens Cemetery (Romford) records for Amy LIVERMORE (nee Fountain) who died 25th Oct 1917. Her address at time of death would most likely been 7 Stanley Street, Ilford.
It is possible she was buried as Fountain rather than Livermore for certain reasons.
Many thanks in advance,Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)

Essex Lookup Requests / Electoral Rolls Ilford- 10 Stanley Road
« on: Saturday 07 February 09 04:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am probably in the wrong board however I would like to know if electoral rolls for Ilford/Romford exist for the period from 1901(actual date unknown-but was before 1911) and end date of 1946?

In particular for : 10 Stanley Road, Ilford

I am looking for details on William Reginald Sangster Hill ( aka William Sangster or Reginald Hill/s or William Hills or any variation on this theme!!!!)

We understand that he not only lived with his wife Frances Harriet Rose Hannah aka Rose and children but had a friend' by whom he had children.

Nothing known about this other lady. Her children (and maybe herself)  went under the name/s of Hill/Hills/Sangster/Sankester/Sankster).

So I would firstly like to find William - who was a baker/pastry cook/ confectioner - the shop(on a main road- name unknown)  he "owned" or "worked in" burned down (date unknown).

Secondly he and FHRH (Rose) or she by herself or him with the other lady...

Oh dear. :-\ I do hope someone can understand what I have written!! ;D
Many thanks..Cheers Vicki (New Zealand)

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Churchsea-COMPLETED-
« on: Thursday 29 January 09 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks to those who replied to this post...help appreciated.
Hi
Is anyone able to tell me please where CHURCHSEA is located?

I am putting the query on London and Middlesex as most of the children's births  for this family were registered Wandsworth. However there was 1 birth registered in Windsor,Berkshire. Another was supposedly born Eton(according to 1911census)-which still needs work on.

I have tried googling Churchsea to no avail. :-\

Many thanks

Occupation Interests / Mantle Maker
« on: Saturday 24 January 09 22:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Found an 18 year old relative Mabel was listed in 1911 census as a Mantle Maker.
Does anyone know what one is?

Her mother was a needle woman so I am wondering if there is a link in the work they were doing?

Would it be something done in a factory or in their home as piece workers?

Interested in any comments...and many thanks...Vicki (New Zealand)

TO all who replied to this topic- thanks- your help is appreciated..

Hi
Wondering if anyone can advise how and where else I might look for birth record for EBENEZER ATTALICUS PEABODY HILL (or could be Ebenezer Peabody Attalicus Hill). According to census 1901 he would have been born c1895 but according to death registration in 1965 (June quarter) he was 68 which gives a birth year of 1897.

Have tried various resources: ancestry, freebmd, GenesReunited etc but no luck and using the indexes page by page. To not avail. Likewise various spellings and combinations of his name.

Dont even know if he had children- also cannot find a marriage for him although I undeerstand he did marry and her name was Alice....
Have tried searching for an Alice who married an Ebenezer Hill/ Peabody Hill/ Attalicus Hill.

My great uncle 'Titch' is proving difficult to find!!!All I have is a photo that I believe is him taken by the looks of it in the 1920s or early 30s but not sure..

Many thanks in advance- your time is appreciated...Cheers Vicki in New Zealand

Essex / The Hill family and 1911 census
« on: Monday 19 January 09 05:58 GMT (UK)  »

I wonder if anyone can advise how I go about finding in the 1911 census my great grandparents and their children.

In 1901 they were in Alexandra Road, West Ham. But they moved at some stage to Ilford- to 10 Stanley Road.  I know for sure that 10 Stanley Road was their home by Feb 1917 when Alice and Maud married.

William Reginald Hill(b c1866) Bayswater?,
wife Frances Harriet Rose Hannah )often known as Rose) b c1864 St Lukes

and their children
William Stanley Sangster Hill (aka Stanley), b 1890
Florence Maud (Maud Florence) Hill b 1891(?),
John Oliver Claudius Hill b 1894
Esther Victoria Hill b1892
Alice Patricia Hill  b c 1896
Ebenezer Attalicus Peabody (or Ebenezer Peabody Attalicus) Hill b c1892
 and
my grandfather Percy (who sometimes used Percy Reginald) Hill b 1901.

Their eldest daughter who married in 1908 (living at Grange Road,Ilford) was by the 1911 census living in Ilford.

I have tried all variants and combinations of all of their names, some of their names, and been inventive as well!!!! Have looked Surrey, Middlesex, Essex, London and no joy.

I do not have an exact year of birth for Ebenezer as I have been unable to find his birth entry.

Any advice would be welcomed..many thanks in advance..Vicki  :-\(New Zealand)
