South Africa / Thomas Davies
« on: Thursday 07 March 24 23:08 GMT (UK)  »
In reference to my message regarding Thomas Davies born 1861 Herefordshire. thank you for the replies.
He is the the Nephew of James Davies(born 1835 Tupsley,  Herefordshire. His daughter Rose Davies was born in the UK possibly Herefordshire or Nantyglo, Pontlottyn, Blaenafon area.  His father Thomas Davies (born 1841  Tupsley, Herefordshire )was living in the Pontlottyn area 1891. We are not sure when Thomas Davies (born 1861) left for South Africa but Rose Davies his daughter was with him. There is a verbal family story tht his wife ? died during the crossing from the UK to South Africa. Thank you once again to those of you who replied

South Africa / Thomas Davies born Herefordshire 1861
« on: Thursday 07 March 24 17:50 GMT (UK)  »
i have not much to go on and i am hoping that someone can help.
i am researching my great great Uncle Thomas Davies, born Herefordshire 1861. His parents were Thomas Davies born  1841Tupsley, Herefordshire. mother Martha Davies. His brother my great great grandfather was James Williams born circa 1835 and his wife was Jane Morris
i have Thomas Davies on the 1881 census living with his Uncle James at Pwlldu, Blaenafon. After that I lose Thomas (born 1861).
i have been told that he went to South Africa, no knowledge of his wife but he had a daughter called Rose Davies.
We believe he might have sailed on a ship named St Helena but that is only family verbal history.
Hope someone can help

Monmouthshire / John Williams born 1884
« on: Tuesday 16 January 24 10:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, i am hoping yet again that my friends on Rootschat can help out once more.
Researching the Williams family can be a minefiled. I know have chapter and verse on the family of George Williams born 1852, who married Sarah Ann Wilkins, Blaenafon. however one of his sons eludes me and that is John Williams born Blaenafon 1884.
All i have on John Williams is the 1891 census for Blaenafon, showing the family to be living at Black House, Blaenafon. Apart from this i have no details on him.
hope someone can help

Monmouthshire / George Williams

Can some one help? i have a small enigma,  i believe my distant cousins in Australia have researched and entered the wrong George Williams  on their tree. H e was my great uncle. They have him dying in 1876 but i am fairly confident that the correct George Williams died in 1896 , Blaenafon both men died tragically George 1896 died from severe injuries sustain whilst working at Big Pit, the Coronors report actually mentions his father George at being present at the time of the accident.
I have both death certs and the copy for George Williams  who died 10th September 1876  states, occupation was Farm Servant cause of death on coronors report .. found dead killed by a kick of a horse. This happened in the Parish of Llanworth (very dicicult to read) Kilgeddin  (which I think is a few miles from USK. i have found George Williams who died 1896 on the 1871 census and the 1881 census and 1891 census. 1871 census shows living with parents George and Mary Ann William, s  (my great great grandparents)Abergavenny Road.  Occupation haulier.1881 Census Living at Long Rank,  Blaenafon. married to Sarah Ann (Wilkins) Williams, son Issac, George's  occupation Miner,  haulier. The 1891 census shows him to be living at Black House, Blaenafon.
For years the family appear to be living Abergavenny Road, and Upper Brickyard are of Blaenafon. i can't find any reference to the family living in the Usk area.
i am trying to prove that relatives in Australia have researched the wrong man.

Herefordshire / Fraces Powell
« on: Tuesday 15 August 23 14:23 BST (UK)  »
Going around in circles. i thought i had found my correct ancestors, that was until a few weeks ago when I received fresh evidence from Australia. This was put together by my great great grandfather's grand daughter.  My great great  grandparents were George Williams and Mary Ann Powell, i always thought they were married in Clodock, Herefordshire but this was no the case. They married June quarter 1850 in Cradley, Herefordshire.
George Williams was born Crasswell, Herefordshire 1828 and Mary Ann Powell was born 1831 Clodock, Herefordshir The census returns 1861- 1901 show them to be living in Blaenafon Monmouthshire. Mary Ann died 1st July 1901 and George Williams died 1906 he was living at Red House, Blaenafon at the time of his death.
i am trying to find out more information on both George and Mary Ann's parents, the information I have Mary Ann's father was Frances Powell and George's father was William Williams.
Any help much appreciated.
many thanks

Monmouthshire / Williams of Red House Farm Blaenafon
« on: Monday 19 June 23 10:59 BST (UK)  »
What an enigma, hope someone can help.

My great great grandparents were George Williams (born 1828) and Mary Ann Powell  from Herefordshire, I know mary Ann was born Clodock, Herfordshire and George is listed on various census as Crasswall, Lontown/Clodock and Michaelchurch Escley Herfordshire. The last information i have on them is the 1901 census living at Red House, Blaenafon (they were here in 1891).I can't find a buriel for either of them.
Last week i visited The Baptist Chapel, Govilon, Abergavenny looking at their daughters grave (Sophia Williams Phillips died 1945) and noticed very close to Sophia's grave was a gravestone for Arthur and Annie Williams both of Red House farm. Arthur was born 1873 and died 26/1/1959  aged 86 and Annie was born 1874 and died on 28/7/1949 aged 75. I can't find any Arthur Williams in my tree but i would imagine they must be related. Hope someone can help. best Ken
