The Common Room / Deal Local Paper - Local beauty Queen
« on: Sunday 13 December 20 14:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello does anyone have access to old copies of the Deal local paper "The East Kent Mercury"? I'm trying to find a photo I've lost which was of a lady named Leslie.... who was a beauty queen in the early 1970s or late 1960s.
The photo was head and shoulders and she was wearing a coat with a fur collar.
Rather vague I'm afraid, but a lost love who I would dearly like to have the photo of again.
I know she went on to marry and her surname became "Preece".

Hello,
I have a record of this marriage but have been unable to link this couple into my Matson family research.
Can anyone help with who the lady may have been please?

I seem to have "lost" some of this family!
In 1891 I have the father James Albert living at 53, Newland Road, Broadwater, Worthing. By then I believe he had 5 children, Louisa Kathleen, James Albert, William John, Albert Edward & Alfred Harold.
Can someone please have a look at  1891 and let me know who is entered? James's wife seems to have been Catherine/Katherine or Kathleen.
Could you also let me know if the Jinks name appears at 27 Chapel Street, Worthing in 1891 or later?
And any Jinks at 14, Gloucester Place, Worthing in 1901 & 1911?

Hello. I've recently been trying to sort out some Matson families who not only lived in the same area. around Faversham/Eastwell etc, at approximately the same time but also had the same names.
My records are now confused and I wonder if anyone could please help if I post some screen pics of what I currently have, by being able to assist me in placing them in the right families and identifying those who I may have duplicated?
I will attach the screen pics, which are in no particular order and keep my fingers crossed for any advice and help which could be offered.
I have to split the file uploads across two posting to upload the 5 files each of which has two separate screen pics.

Hello,
I have a large family of Matsons in Adlington. John Matson and his wife Sarah??? had 10 children with the first one I know of being George about 1821.
I know John was a farmer and from the 1841 census I think that John and Sarah were both born around 1791 as they both give their ages as 50 and their place of birth as Aldington.
I can't find a marriage though and I also would like to find their parents, especially John as I don't know where he fits into the family tree.

Confusingly there is a family shown as "Matum" in the same census in Faversham with John being aged 50 and his wife Sarah aged 45. They have 5 children with the eldest being Sarah aged 15. This family seems to be connected to a Charles Smith/Matson born 1811 in Selling. I have a separate thread where people have kindly been helping me with that confusion.

As always I really appreciate any help you can provide.

« on: Thursday 15 January 15 13:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have a Charles Matson and only this record of his marriage which I believe to be to Kitty Jemima Wilkinson. I believe they had 2 children Edward 1845 and Charles 1847.
Can anyone please help with more detail to enable me to identify Charles, who married in 1847, as so far I can't find his parent?.

Kent / Elizabeth Wellard and possible marriage 3rd Sept.1849
« on: Tuesday 13 January 15 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
I have a strange record in my Matson info.
A record of a marriage at St. James, Dover for 3rd September 1849 -
Matson William Butcher This Parish John. Farmer. Willard Elizabeth This parish John Tailor.
I believe this is the marriage of William Matson who's occupation was a Butcher and that it was witnessed by his father, John Matson whose occupation was a farmer. The bride being Elizabeth Wellard and that there was another witness named John (possibly Wellard?) whose occupation was a tailor.

However I have William Matson whose occupation is a butcher, being married to Elizabeth Hoile Bromley. The Bromley family were farmers at Hougham and a John Bromley was born in the June Quarter of 1848 in Hougham. I can't find a record of that marriage though.
I think that Elizabeth Hoile Bromley was the daughter of Jane Bromley (1805-1803) and a Daniel Hoile
who appears in the 1841 census at Hougham aged 45. He was married to Francis at the time. Could this mean there was another person named Hoile or was Daniel involved with Jane Bromley?

All rather complicated :P

Has anyone any details about Elizabeth Wellard or a John Willard, a tailor, or the mystery Hoile family, which may help?
