World War Two / Deciphering my Grandad Burns Campbell Taylor's Army Service Record
« on: Saturday 30 October 21 16:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello im wondering if you guys could help me decipher my Grandads Army Service Record please? You all helped me understand my other Grandads in a way I never would of on my own. This one seems to have more pages to it so I'll try to post them all up but May have to do it in several posts.

His name was Burns Campbell Taylor and he was from Aberdeen. He joined the RAMS before the War started on 07/03/39 as a territorial. All we ever really knew before receiving these was that he was an Ambulance driver who had been in the Expeditionary Forces before the evacuation at Dunkirk, he then went on to meet my Nan inTwyning, Gloucestershire and later went back to Europe on DDay.

Many thank for any help you can be in explaining it all to me.

Craig

World War Two / What Ship would my Grandad have sailed to North Africa on?
« on: Monday 12 April 21 14:01 BST (UK)  »
On my Grandad Edward Butt's Service Records it states he was assigned to draft RN00A and embarked for North Africa on the 18/05/1943, disembarking on the 27/05/1943 and being assigned to (X)IV unposted re-enforcements. Is there anyway I can find out what ship he would of sailed on and which ports he would of left from and landed at?
Thanks for any help you can give.

World War Two / Help deciphering my Grandad Edward Butt's POW Card
« on: Thursday 08 April 21 08:56 BST (UK)  »
Hello I've recently received my Grandads POW Card and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me make sence of it and tell me where he was?
From his Service Records I know he was reported missing believed POW on 26 Oct 43 and later confirmed as a POW by GHQ BNAF to be in Stalag VIIA.
I always remember him telling me that he had been in 3 camps one being an officer's camp even though he wasn't an officer and he mentioned being sent down mines as well.
Any help deciphering these would be very much appreciated.
Thanks Craig

World War Two / Deciphering my Grandad Edward Butt's Army Service Record
« on: Sunday 06 October 19 11:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi im wondering if anybody on here could help me to deciphering my Grandad Edward Butt's army service record?

He joined the Worcestershire Regiment 11th Battalion on 17/7/1940 before being moved into the 1st battalion on 1/1/1943.  On his records it states he was transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers wef under ACI 626/39 can anyone tell me what this code would of meant?

He went missing believed POW in Italy on the 26/10/43 and under this it mentions
Authy balle 02E BNAF 4244 af 13/11/43?
Not sure if im reading that correctly and what it would mean?

Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks Craig
