Cambridgeshire / No father on birth cert..
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 19:33 GMT (UK)  »
hi i was wondering if anyone can offer some advice on how to get started on my mothers paternal side, she was born in 1950,no fathers name was entered but she was always told who he was,and it would seem it went to court and her father was made to pay for her upkeep.Would the court case notes be available?if so who would i need to contact?all i have to go on is his name and the area he lived..many thanks for looking at this and would be great if i could get some idea on how i can make a start

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / marriage look up request
« on: Friday 14 January 11 20:50 GMT (UK)  »
hi was wondering if anyone could do a marriage look up i believe the wedding took place at ramsey huntingdon on 26/11/1832 between william speechley and ann cawthorn i believe she was a widow.

ive come to a stand still with this line of my family,in the 1851 census john and ann are living at arnolds lane whittlesey with wife ann and son william and is working as a ag lab.he gives yaxley as his place of birth in 1802..there is a few william speechleys baptised around this time in that area, all others that i have spoken to who are researching this speechley family have all come to a stop at the same place, unable to find a baptism.

so im hoping if the marriage i have is correct then it might give his fathers name..i have a possible baptism on march 25th 1804,parents named william and ann speechley..

i would love to be able to knock this wall down to continue with this line

many thanks

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / death/burial lookup
« on: Tuesday 09 February 10 14:25 GMT (UK)  »
hi im at a standstill in my search for my 3 x gt grandfather.not born in the northants area i believe he probably died here, though for the last two years i have had no luck at finding a death entry for him.

his name was lavender lakey born 14 march 1844 welney norfolk baptised 9 may  1844 at welney.he seems to travel around and is in all census until 1881 when he was in thrapston with wife eliza and children.on 23rd october 1886 his wife eliza died in benefield northants aged 38 and lavender was informant on death cert.Thats the last evidence i have of him alive,he isnt on the 1891 census and all his children are living in oundle as lodgers with other families. his son harry (my 2x gt grandfather) married in peterborough in 1898 and on his marriage cert it states father lavender lakey deceased.so i surmised he died between 1886-1898 but found nothing so i extended the search but still nothing, its as though once his wife died he didnt exsist.i was hoping that someone may have death/burial records for these areas and look up any entries,or can offer any advice on where to go from here to find his death.

Northamptonshire / lavender lakey last evidence of him alive is in benefield
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 15:22 BST (UK)  »
hi :D

im looking for the death of lavender lakey born 9 may 1844 in welney norfolk,he married a widow eliza bullas nee robinson in sheffield on 3rd february 1872,the family seem to have moved around my gt grandfather harry lakey the 5th child of the couple was born in walsall west midlands on 1 june 1877.by the census of 1881 the family were living in clack bythorne thrapston.lavenders wife eliza died on 23 october 1886 in benefield northants and lavender was the informant at death,he then disapears from records.my gt grandfather harry married on 27th june 1898 in peterborough and he states father lavender lakey deceased,so it would suggest that lavender died somewhere between 1886-1898 but i can find no death entry for him . can anyone offer advice?

Huntingdonshire / speechley family of yaxley
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 15:06 BST (UK)  »
hi  ;D

im looking for information on the speechley family of yaxley, my 4 x gt grandfather is a william speechley in the census he is living in whittlesey, cambridgeshire with wife ann and son william working as a farm labourer but states his birthplace as yaxley, the census would date him to being born around 1802,he married his wife a widow by the name of ann crawthorne from ramsey on 26th november 1832 at ramsey.
but i cant find any birth/christening for a william speechley in yaxley around this time.there is another william born around the same time in yaxley but hes been proven not to be the william in our speechley tree.
can anyone offer advice? many thanks for looking

hi there
ive previously asked for help on this person about a year or so ago and am so desperate i am trying again to see if anyone out there can offer advice on where to go now.

nathaniel hall is my 3 x gt grandfather all census and his marriage/death cert dates his birth to being around 1829 in newcastle upon tyne,my problem is i can not find him on any census before his marriage to a catherine turnbull on the 26th august 1854.on his marriage cert he names his father as nathaniel hall a butcher.and on all census after his marriage he claims that he was born in newcastle upon tyne.in the census 1861-his death he is living in the byker area, where he died on 31 august 1906.
there is a nathaniel hall born 1804 in newcatle upon tyne a butcher who could possibly be the nathaniel my 3 x gt grandfather refers to but i cannot link them together,by the time of the 1941 census nathaniel born 1841 is a widow living with his step siblings,i have researched this nathaniel in the hope of linking them but found nothing that would suggest him being the father,i even sent for his will in the hope he mentions a son called nathaniel but it doesnt he left everything to his only daughter.
its as though my 3 x gt grandfather didnt exsist until his marriage.the name nathaniel has been carried down through the generations and my 3 x gt grandfathers son nathaniel was a butcher,so it would seem to be a family name and business...can anyone offer any advice please?
