World War Two / RAF service record help
« on: Sunday 14 January 24 19:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Finally got my grandfather JH Batten's RAF records from the MOD. However, I was wondering whether anyone knew why his unit in 1941 has been blacked out? It's the only section in the unit that has and he was in service until 1960. I was trying to figure out where he could have been at that time.

Thanks,

MJ

« on: Friday 24 November 23 18:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

Can anybody help me date this photo? I am not very good with men's fashion and finding it hard to work out. It's a family photo on my Batten side of the family but cannot figure out who it is.

Many thanks,

Michael

Hi All,

Can anyone help me date this photo? It is most probably the Davies family, as that is the only family I have from Tenby, but there were a number of daughters and trying to figure out which two these may be.

Many thanks,

Michael

Glamorganshire / Can anyone help with this place name in Neath?
« on: Monday 20 June 22 11:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

Trying to figure out what the address (name) is above Neath on this attached section of a marriage certificate. I have searched old maps of Neath and googled, but cannot find anything similar to this spelling. It's hard to read, but looks like Cylemlerioo or Glemlevioo/rioo. Any suggestions?

Many thanks,

MJ

Armed Forces / Help deciphering WWII Army Records
« on: Sunday 28 November 21 13:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Finally received my great grandfather, William White's army records from the MOD. I am having trouble figuring out what he may have been up to in the Middle East Dec 1939 to about Feb 1942 and then he is sent to Alexandria Feb 1942. Is there anybody able to help me figure out what he was doing and what operations he may have been involved in? I do have the book 'The Story of the Royal Army Service Corps 1939-1945' but I cannot work out the company he was in to research it. Plus, I can go to the National Archives to look at the diaries, but yet again, I am unaware of which company he is with.

Many thanks,

MJ

Hi again,

Another Cowen from Newcastle area. My guess is it's either Sarah Cowen or the mother of Sarah who was Margaret Cowen. Again, depending on the date I am not sure which one it is.

Thank you.

Hi All,

This photo is of my Cowen side of my family from Bewicke Main, Newcastle area. It's either Edward or John Cowen depending on the date of the photo. I am taking a guess that it may be after or for a wedding based on the flower and the tie/bow tie that looks white. Any help in figuring out a date will be gratefully appreciated.

Best wishes,

MJ

Armed Forces / Which Regiment?
« on: Monday 03 May 21 20:49 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody help me identify which regiment my great grandfather, William White was in in this photo? I know in WWI he was in the KRRC and from 1919 - 1926 in the Bedfordshire Reg and from 1927 - 1953 the RASC. I know it isn't the RASC as he looks to young here. It's a terribly damaged photo. All I can make out is that he's a Sergeant from the 3 chevrons.

Many thanks,

MJ

Not sure where to post this, but what does it mean by qualifying property and there being 2 addresses listed for the same person?

Many thanks,

MJ
