Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Birth record/baptism of William Heap
« on: Wednesday 10 February 21 14:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm trying to find a birth record/baptism for a William Heap between 1837-1840 supposedly in Ovenden, Halifax (his birth place on the censuses.)

On his marriage certificate he states that his father is 'Samuel Heap' a labourer. He is stated as being a minor, and this marriage was in 1857 to Ann Veasey in Liverpool.

The most likely William on the census is one who appears to have been probably illegitimate and living with his grandparents James and Mary Heap in Ovenden in 1841/51. Potentially his mother was their daughter Harriet (he named his own first daughter Harriet.)

I've gone through all the William Heaps on the GRO index for this period but have already matched them to a family, and cannot find a baptism at all for a William Heap. Before I contact the Archives in Yorkshire for help, I wondered if anyone on here could help me?

Thanks :)

Lancashire / Heap Marriages in Liverpool
« on: Thursday 24 December 20 22:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Merry Xmas for a start! :)

I'm posting as a long shot before I resort to buying all marriage certificates from GRO

is there anyway anyone could look up these Heap marriages for me in Liverpool?

Richard Heap 1917 Emma Hudson - last occupation Dock labourer
Robert Heap 1919 Edith M Pearson -last occupation labourer
William Heap 1895 Margaret O'Connor
George 1896 Ada Foxon

I'm hoping the father's name will be William Heap on them all.
He worked in Brassworks/ as an Engine Fitter  but was also just recorded as a 'Labourer' on census.

I can't find William (b 1864)
and George (b 1870) both in Liverpool on further censuses so am hoping potential marriages will shed some light.

George was last seen on the 1891 census employed by the postal service, and William the 1881 (he's just stated as apprentice here)

Any help would be appreciated before I buy the certificates!!

Thanks in advance :)

Sussex Lookup Requests / Lookup request Edward Graves/Greaves
« on: Wednesday 21 October 20 15:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Can I have a lookup request for Edward Graves/Greaves please?

born between 1810-1830 in Chichester (he kept changing his age but he apparently first went to sea in 1831)

father supposedly also Edward from marriage certificate.

Thanks :)

He later moved to Liverpool and married Elizabeth Horsfall Crowther. Cannot locate him on 41/51/61 censuses but he may have been at sea.

Only Graves/Greaves I can find in Chichester is a 'Leonora Greaves' who died in 1852 and was originally from the Channel Islands according to the census.

Sussex Lookup Requests / George Oram abt 1813
« on: Monday 10 August 20 20:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for the baptism of George Oram born circa 1813/1814 in Cuckfield or Lindfield (place of birth from census.)

I've looked on freereg.org and there's no George Oram baptised in Cuckfield, and the Genealogist supposedly has Lindfield parish registers but there's nothing coming up when I search for him.

Lots of trees on ancestry suggest his parents were Stephen Oram and Barbara Comber. On George's marriage certificate to Eliza Hill(s), he states that his father is Stephen.

I found Stephen dying in 1830 in Cuckfield, aged 41 and marrying Barbara in 1813. If anyone could help me locate George's actual baptism though, that would be great!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Missing Birth Record William Heap
« on: Wednesday 29 July 20 14:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone!

After posting another brick wall in another county and receiving so much help, I thought I'd try this one.

William Heap born approx between 1837-1839 in Ovenden, Halifax, Yorkshire.

His marriage in 1857 in Lancashire to Ann Vasey states that his father was "Samuel Heap."

However, I can't find a birth record for a William to a Samuel.

William appears on the censuses in 1841 and 1851 with presumably his grandparents James and Mary Heap in Ovenden (I think this is the correct William??)

I'm wondering if William was illegitimate and born to either Elizabeth or Harriet Heap (the daughters of James and Mary Heap.)

I'd love to find a birth certificate for William though or a baptism record.

He is not the William Heap registered 1838 Halifax- this is to a James Heap and Sarah Smith.

William died in 1903 in Liverpool aged '63'

England / The Elusive William McRoskell
« on: Monday 15 June 20 14:46 BST (UK)  »
William McRoskell was supposedly the father of the following children born to him and Elizabeth Cooper. I cannot find a marriage between the two.

Lois Selina 1863 West Ashford
Rose Ellen 1866 West Ashford
Violetta Anne 1869 Isle of Wight
St Clair Caffyn abt 1870 in Edinburgh (cannot find anything on scotlandspeople.)

Elizabeth went on to marry(?) John Tutt- I cannot find a marriage record.
their daughter Mabel Beatrice Tutt was born 1879 in Winchester.

I cannot find a death for William McRoskell and this is a very uncommon surname. According to his children's marriage records he was a silversmith.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm wondering if he was from another country and anglicised his surname? Or this was just a completely fake name?

Elizabeth appears to be Elizabeth Harriett Cooper born 1841 in East Grinstead, mother's maiden name Caffyn (hence her son St Clair Caffyn McRoskell)

Wiltshire / Elizabeth Wright parentage
« on: Tuesday 12 May 20 15:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Elizabeth Wright married George Godwin 1847 in Swindon (the image is on ancestry.co.uk)

I believe her parents to be Susanna Ricks and Joseph Wright, and she was born 1825 in Wanborough

However, on the marriage certificate, Joseph Wright is not stated as her father. He was still alive when she got married, and her brother Henry Wright also witnessed the marriage.

I'm just wondering why her father's name wouldn't have been recorded? George's father Jonas is.
Can anyone suggest anything?

England / Bonfield Bryant
« on: Wednesday 08 April 20 00:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to sort out the confusing number of Bonfield Bryants

Bonfield Bryant and Sarah Shelton had the following children:

Sophia 1829- 1829
William Shelton 1830-1917
Georgiana 1833-1867
Alice Frances 1835-?
John 1839-?
Charles 1842-?

I can't find Bonfield, Sarah and most of the children on censuses.
Bonfield and Sarah Shelton married in 1829.

There's a marriage for a Bonfield to a Sarah Webb in 1827 and a court proceeding regarding how it was a bigamous marriage and I don't know if Bonfield who married Sarah Shelton and Sarah Webb are the same person?

There's lots of records for different Bonfields

Robert Bonefield Bryant b 1737 Ridgemont to William and Anne

Bonfield Bryant m Grace Hawkins 1764

Bonfield b. 1774 to Bonfield and Grace  Southoe

Bonfield Bryant apprentice in records 1794  Eynesbury

Bonfield b. 1799 to Thomas and Alice  Bedford

Bonfield Bryant 'senior' d. 1805 Southoe

Bonfield Bryant m. Anne Clare 1805 Little Paxton

Bonfield Bryant b. 1807 to Bonfield and Anne  Southoe

Bonfield Bryant 'junior'. d 1807 Southoe

Bonfield Bryant will 1811

Bonfield Bryant d. 1838 (stated born 1775 on burial record) London

Bonfield Bryant d. 1848 (stated as 48 years) London

I'd love to be able to figure out which Bonfield belongs to which, and also who the parents were of each Bonfield Bryant, and also where Sarah Shelton comes from, and what happened to all of Bonfield and Sarah's children?
