Family History Beginners Board / Unusual Profession/Occupation
« on: Friday 23 May 14 16:42 BST (UK)  »
On the 1891 my grandmother (b 1877 shown as age 13) and her older brother (b 1874 shown as aged 16) both have "Cyclist" in the "Profession or Occupation" column.  I haven't come across this anywhere else.  Is it a recognised entry?  is it because cycling is quite new and they want to say they can do it?  Is it like people now putting "Jedi" on the census form?
By 1901 she is a "Nurse domestic" and he is an iron monger (I think - he was hard to track down)
I would love to know if anyone else has come across cyclist on census forms

Ross & Cromarty / Fodderty Cemetery
« on: Saturday 22 March 14 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone live near to Fodderty cemetery who could help me with a grave stone inscription?  I took a photo of this stone last year  ( it is lying flat in the old part of the cemetery through the main gate and up the hill to the left next to a standing stone erected by jane anderson or macLennan to her parents Kenneth and Christina.  My photo is not very clear of the stone I am interested in. It  is to Donald Mclennan railway inspector who died in Wick 1889 and his wife Catherine Innes.  But that is all i can deceipher.  Any help much appreciated

Ross & Cromarty / All those MacLennans in Maryburgh
« on: Thursday 24 May 12 20:42 BST (UK)  »
I've recently found that it is only my immediate family who moved to Invershin, Sutherland (working on the railways).  The family came from Maryburgh Ross and Cromarty.  But there are so many MacLennans in Maryburgh.  Are they all related?  How long have they been there?  the numbers have overwhelmed me.  has anyone been researching them?  thanks, Kait

Anyone know of MacLennans in the Invershin area?  I'm looking for family of Donald (1853 - 1907) who was station master there
