Australia Lookups completed / South Aussie Graves
« on: Saturday 28 June 08 01:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

can someone tell me how to look up South Australian cemeteries online,
if it is possible that is.
I see everyone posting burial details and would like to be able to look for myself.

Thanks
Julie

Kerry / Kerrisks in Kerry
« on: Sunday 25 May 08 02:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,
Yesterday at my local family history centre, courtesy of helpful LDS volunteers, I found my Kerrisk forbears in a place which reads Bealanahulla in the priests handwriting. This is from the Castleisland Parish records.
I haven't been able to find the little place on any map or to find them on any posted Valuation site.
The names are John Kerrisk and wife Nora (nee Connell). They had 3 children  one of whom was christened Thimotheus Kerrisk who went to Bermuda in 1857 as a prison officer. Tim  had a son William Kerrisk who came to Australia from Bermuda in 1880's, who became my great grandpa.
If anyone has access to records of Castleisland tenants or any other thing at all , I would be grateful for any information on them.
The only other info that I have is that Timothy's sister Nora married Daniel Louney and had a daughter Margaret in 1857. This is from Timothy's will. The Louneys had other children as well, Timothy is listed as godparent to some of them.
My primary interest is the original family of John and Nora Kerrisk and anyone preceding them!!!!!  ;D ;D.
Hope someones got some ideas up their sleeve for me.

Australia / Whole THYER family dead on 1 day in 1896
« on: Sunday 22 April 07 01:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi All, ;D
Just found a strange entry in the Sa BMD. ??? ???

I am researching the THYER  family. My lot from Mt. Pleasant but moved up north to Belalie.
Found entry for
Joseph and Elizabeth Thyer and  6 children
who all died on 12 Oct 1896 at Paratoo.

I had previously found a Peterborough cemetery record for JamesThyer which  said he had killed his entire family and then killed himself in 1875 at Peterborough. :o :o :o
This man Joseph was the son of a  James Thyer.

I have just read Krisesjoint's posts on the meaning of the symbols on the records. These 8 records all have "S" on them.

My question is...failing purchasing a certificate(I don't want to- these are cousins of my family) is there some other way I could find out about this strange business??

Surely a father and son wouldn't both do the same thing, presuming of course he somehow managed to survive his fathers madness when the rest did not.  ::)

Maybe they all got typhoid and died one after the other or something like that. Its a strange one.

Any observations and suggestions would be welcomed.

regards
Julie

Worcestershire / Finding Baptism records in UK.
« on: Saturday 14 October 06 08:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
have found some baptism records on the Hugh Wallis web site.
Does anyone know how I could locate where the original church records would be held in the UK. They are for 1840's in Redditch Worcs. UK.
Does anyone know if these originals would have more info (like god-parents names) than what is on the LDS batch file.
Thanks

Australia Lookups completed / Thomas Holyoake/Julia Gliddon at Melrose SA
« on: Friday 13 October 06 01:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi All
Trying to find out if Thomas Smith Holyoake, who was killed at Kanyakka Homestead in 1872, owned a property in Melrose in the years 1860 -1873.
I believe the family came up from Streaky Bay where the extended Gliddon family first settled when arriving in SA.
Thomas was a travelling hawker.
Julia Holyoake went on to marry Watson(Walter) Bunting (Bontin/Buntin) and they had the pub at Parachilna, from 1875, after her brother Edmund Arthur Gliddon passed it over to them.
My interest at present is Thomas and Julia.
Any information would be of interest to me.
I cannot find a marriage for them in England or Australia.
Anyone know a web site where I could check if they had a house at Melrose?
Thanks
