London and Middlesex / Thomas McDermott Date of Death and Burial
« on: Monday 13 April 20 15:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help me or point me in the right direction please. I am researching my 2 x G Grandfather Thomas McDermott born in Kilkeeran, Roscommon in Ireland around 1829. Thomas joined the British Army in 1846 and served in India and Cape Colony before being discharged as a Chelsea out-pensioner in 1868. I am seeking information in relation to his death and burial. According to the 1911 census, he 82 years old and living with his daughter in East Ham, London, but I have not been able to nail down his date of death or location of his burial. He was a Roman Catholic so I am assuming it will in a local R.C Church, but I have failed to find a candidate match in the registry of deaths for around this time frame. Any help or advice gratefully received. Stephen

Hi, I am new to the forum so forgive me if I am not asking in the right place :). I am seeking further information in relation to one Edward Dalton who i believe is my 4 x great grandfather.  I have confirmed my 3 x grandfather as Cain Dalton (an unusual name) has a father Edward whose profession is described as Cooper.  I think i have located Edward on the 1851 census and again on the 1841 census although the surname maybe miss-spelt as 'Daulton'. The 1841 census shows a lot of children (but no Cain). I'd like to confirm this is correct and also nail down a date of death for Edward. I am also very interested in attempting to track back to his parents. He was apparently born in Gibraltar in 1801 (described in 1851 census as British Subject) so I am wondering if his father was in the British Army or Royal Navy at the time?  However, I cannot find any trace of an Edward Dalton born in Gibraltar on any of the online resources I have checked. Any help or advice gratefully received.

Kind regards SRD17
