United States of America / Taylor's of Tennessee and Virginia
« on: Tuesday 16 June 20 19:15 BST (UK)  »
Even though my Taylor line began in France and moved to England, Scotland and finally Ireland, my 6th GGF Isaac Taylor (1710-1781) came to Virginia in 1746.  Some of my ancestors died in some of the following areas: Rockbridge County, VA or Washington and Carter County TN.
I was born in Carter County TN. There are two Taylor cemeteries in the county. Is anyone related to this line.
FYI some of my Taylor line:

James Patton Taylor
Aditha Taylor (1819-1849)
Nathaniel Greene Taylor (1819-1887)
William Brownlow Taylor (abt 1841-before 1901)
Andrew Taylor Sr. (1730-1787)

Armed Forces / Revolutinary War, Civil War, WW II, etc

I had ancestors in the Revolutionary War: some were at the Battle of Kings Mountain.
I had ancestors on both sides during the Civil War. Some died of their wounds at hospitals after the battle, some died in prisons. Several made it back after the war. Did lots of research on my ancestors as to what they did. Had over 30 ancestors in the Civil War.
I had relatives in the Navy, Army and Air Corps. My dad was on an aircraft carrier (USS Wake Island) during WW II. He was in the Pacific and their ship was hit by a kamikaze plan and came close to being sunk. He was a signalman. He was in from 1942-1946.  I was in the USAF from 1969-1990-I was in purchasing/procurement; had two overseas tours: Okinawa for 18 months (1971-1973) and 4 years in England (1980-1964).

Cumberland / Taylor family line in Cumberland
« on: Friday 24 April 20 22:16 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone done any research on the Taylor line in England? I have some of my ancestors from that area. One of my ancestors is John Taylor born in 1607.
Some of my Taylor line is from England and some from Scotland and Ireland. I've researched as far back as the 8th/9th century. Hope to connect with anyone who is working on this family.
Let me know how we can connect.

Ireland / Townsend/Townshend
« on: Wednesday 15 April 20 22:47 BST (UK)  »
My Townsend/Townshend line originated from Ireland and some may have come via Scotland. I haven't checked to see which ones. I've only been able to only verify back to my 5th great grandfather. I've seen that the Townsend line goes as far back as the 10th century.
Is anyone else following this line?

Antrim / My Taylor line was from Antrim County Ireland

My 6th great grandfather, Isaac Taylor (1710-1781) was born there. He settled in Rockbridge County, VA in 1746. I also had an ancestor, Andrew Taylor, Sr. (5th great grandfather 1731-1787) born there too. He died in Washington County TN. He was married twice-Elizabeth Wilson and then Ann Wilson.

Has anyone else found that their Taylor line originated from this part of Ireland or another county?

Armed Forces / Civil War Ancestors
« on: Wednesday 15 April 20 20:20 BST (UK)  »
I found that I had several Civil War ancestors. Some fought for the Union and some for the Confederacy. Believe I had more with the Confederacy. I've done plenty of research and found anywhere from 35 to over 40. The majority enlisted either in Tennessee or North Carolina. I had some that enlisted in Arkansas and some other states. I had both enlisted and officers, including some Lt. Colonels. Some died in prisons and some died in hospitals after being wounded. Some actually died on the battlefield. I had one group of ancestors who were with the 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry (Union).
Have any of you found out the same thing?
