anyone know of direct way to access the records of a serving member prior to 1920?  the archives people seem to be full of jobsworths and obstructive.  there shld be a simple way of sending in your request with the fee and having copies of records sent back as per the register office system for births, marriages and deaths.  all you get back from the archives people is a ton of guff and a list of pro's who will do the search for you for a fee..... comments?

John Hornsby b c1807 Leominster m Catherine c1830 poss at Pembridge.  Cath's surname and marriage parish church is eluding me.
any hornsbys out there wanna help?
have tree going fwd into 20th cent.
John and Catherine both died in 1840s at Leominster; produced Edward who raised family at Eardisland (all Hornsbys then were basket makers)before Birmingham's factories called in the 1900s.  Interested also to hear from living offshoots of one son George who raised known family in Birmingham from 1890s. Like most Brummies the Hornsbys started off living back of Broad St., Birmingham, in the bad old courtyard days. Other Hornsbys settled New York c1900... any info on this?
hve just finished book on my five main families and just entering photographs.  any contributions welcome.
