William Clunn's 1697 Will was in English, but the probate looks to be Latin.

It would be much appreciated if this Latin part could be deciphered.

I have a 1713 Will / Probate 1720 that the testator John Davison refers to his family as kinsman /  kinswoman and kinsman the Elder.

When John mentions kinsman and kinswoman, it's his children.

Although he also refers to Thomas as kinsman the Elder. Would this be John's father?

In the name of God Amen, John Davison of Ramsgate in the Parish of St Lawrence in the Isle of Thanet and County of Kent Fisherman being in good health of body and of Sound and Disposing Mind and Memory praised be almighty God therefore DOC Make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner and form following that is to say
Imprimis - I give and bequeath unto the children of my late kinsman John Davison deceased the sum of Two shillings and Six pence to be equally divided between them.
Item – I give and bequeath unto my kinsman Thomas Davison the Elder the sum of Two shillings & Six pence.
Item – I give and bequeath unto my sister Susanna Watts the sum of two shillings and six pence.
Item – I give and bequeath unto my kinswoman Sarah Steward widow the sum of Two shillings and six pence.

Armed Forces / HMS Yarmouth at Bombay 1755-1760
« on: Saturday 27 April 24 08:53 BST (UK)  »
Both Hammond Kennard (Bap:9 Feb 1734 St Laurence, Ramsgate) and Paul Sackett (Bap:  9 Oct 1737 St John the Baptist, Margate) served on the HMS Yarmouth.

Presumably, both gentlemen died off the coast or near Bombay between 1756 to 1758.

Here are the Wills, but I'm curious if there's a list of casualties for the HMS Yarmouth when it was in service in or near Bombay from 1755 to 1760. It appears to be well-documented for this era with books and diaries about the battles.

Kent / Guardianship of grandchildren in 1765
« on: Thursday 25 April 24 04:41 BST (UK)  »
My 6x great grandfather George Norton in his Will appointed an attorney in Ramsgate as guardian to 4 of his grandchildren from his eldest deceased son John in 1765.

John’s wife had also passed and George cared for the 4 grandchildren who were around mid to late teens by 1765.

George outlived his wife and 6 of his 7 children. He appointed son-in-law Isaac of his only surviving daughter Elizabeth as executor of his Will.  Elizabeth and Issac had 6 children of their own by 1765.

George had no other grandchildren besides those of his late son John and surviving daughter Elizabeth.

The attorney (John Fagg) handled some of the legalities for the properties George owned/managed over the years. The attorney was also the trustee for monies and property that was willed to the 4 grandchildren until they turned 21.

Was there any general laws during this period as to why George would assign an attorney as the guardian of his 4 grandchildren?

Somerset / Bastardy Bonds for children Theophila Cary and Thomas Cary
« on: Thursday 26 October 23 22:18 BST (UK)  »
While researching one of our ancestors William Chaffin, it was indicated in a book called 'The Chaffin Family - A Study of One Name' by Phyllis Drake and Stella Judy Drake that two illegitimate children were born to Mary Cary (Carey) with the putative father named William Chaffin.

Extract from book:
William and Pheobe had started their married life in Bruton, Somerset, the original home of all the modern Chaffins and their first children were born there. They moved to Taunton in about 1783 and perhaps the birth of a daughter to Mary Carey of Bruton in 1782 had something to do with the move, as William was named as the putative father. Unfortunately for Pheobe, the affair continued and Mary Carey had a son by William in 1785.

Authors give one of the text references to their findings as Bruton Bastardy Bonds

I've managed to find the illegitimate births of these two children, but was interested to find a possible reference for any records naming the putative father as William Chaffin.

Illegitimate children:
Theophila Cary - Baptised 1 January 1782, Bruton,  burial 1 March 1789 Bruton
Thomas Cary - Baptised 26 August 1785 Bruton,  burial 8 April 1853 Bruton

Mother:
Mary Cary - Baptised 18 March 1759 Bruton, burial 28 May 1809 Bruton

Supposed father:
William Chaffin - Baptised 28 August 1748 Bruton, death Wells Place Holloway, burial 20 April 1820 St Thomas à Becket and St Mark's Widcombe
