Kent / Burts of Kent
« on: Friday 08 December 06 11:12 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking anyone tracing the Burt family of Dartford, Kent. My great grandfather was WILLIAM ABRAHAM BURT b 1869 Dartford (son of THOMAS BURT b 1837 East Grinstead, Sussex). He was the youngest of 6 children. I understand he fathered about 17 children, possibly by 2 wives? The eldest of these was AMY VICTORIA BURT b 1890 Bromley, I then have ANN, LUCY & LUSHANA all born Chiselhurst. It is believed there was a Fred who went to WW11 & didn't come back, he'd have been one of the youngest? As we are after the 1901 census I don't know what to do next? All advice/info very much appreciated. There must be some family out there somewhere? Doidy

Suffolk / Emigrated to Canada - HARVEY
« on: Friday 08 September 06 08:41 BST (UK)  »
My great uncle Frederick Harvey born Ipswich 1904, emigrated to Canada & died unmarried in Barwick,Ontario, circa 1940's. There did exist a photo of him looking like a "Trapper" standing outside a log cabin. I do not know when he emigrated, but instincts say between 1912 & 1925? His mother died in 1912 & his father remarried in 1914. I have not been able to find the father's death but he died before 1925 when my gran married & as the step mum was a witness I guess Fred had aleady emigrated? Also the step mum went on to remarry a man she had been a house keeper to, so I wander if she had coped with a young step daughter but maybe Fred went into an orphanage & was sent abroad as a child, or did he go of his own accord as a young man? If only we asked more questions????????? Of course the date of death of his father would help, but I have scanned the BMD Indexes to no avail, why do these people vanish? Any help re how to trace Fred's emigration appreciated? Thanks in anticipation Diana

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Dodson, Great Yarmouth
« on: Monday 04 September 06 20:46 BST (UK)  »
Please can any one help, possibly with a 1841 lookup?I have William Dodson Neph U 21 M Labourer Yarmouth, Norfolk, living with his uncle Joseph Dodson in 1851 census Yarmouth. However when William got married he put Joseph as his father on his marriage cert. It may have been that he was brought up by his uncle &  thought of him as his dad, also that his own father was mentally ill & there was a stigma? Any help of any sort appreciated. Also pleased to hear from any Dodson's doing this line, they then went to Esses & then Suffolk. Thanks Diana

Dorset / Bayles????? Yard Farm, Marshalsea & Water House Farm Bettiscombe
« on: Monday 04 September 06 20:31 BST (UK)  »
My husbands family the Smiths are shown as living at both Bayles?????? Yard farm, Marshalsea in 1861,71 &81 census, then at Waterhouse Farm, Bettiscombe, Dorset in 1881. Both these areas are in the Marshwood Reg district. Is there any one who knows where they are or what they are called now. Modern day Ordenance Survey maps do not show them. There were 14 Smith children so is there any one out there tracing the same line? Thanks Diana
