I'm hoping that someone might shed some light on this as I have hit a complete brick wall around 1930.

My Mother was born 31st Jan 1930 as Margery Frances Wray - her Mother was born Esther Ivens, born in 1884 in Gibraltar as a twin to Beatrice making my Grandmother 45-46 at the time of Mum's birth.

It was always described that Mum's Father had died "when she was very young" with the suggestion that she'd never really known him and he was never discussed - my Grandmother (and Mum) appears in Cornwall in the 1939 records with Esther detailed as a Widow which ties in with my knowledge of Mum's life during WW2.

The conundrum revolves around Frederick...

My scant knowledge from the few comments that I'd had whilst growing up suggested he was known as Frank and was Irish.  Mum's birth certificate details her Father as being Frederick Archer Wray and Esther as being 'Wray, formerly Ivens'

So far, so good - I cannot find any marriage certificate for Wray / Ivens, nor can I find any reference to a death certificate for Wray... having assumed he was around for the conception (I know...) this would suggest death some time in Q2-4 of 1929 and, being a widow in 1939, I've used a search criteria of date of death of 1934 plus/minus five years.

Archer is an unusual middle name - I've searched using wildcards for both names but had no joy.

Esther appears on the Electoral Roll in 1930 and 1931 for 63 College Court and then in 1932 at 296 Goldhawk Road

Can anyone shed some light on this... or where I need to look to find more information myself?  Would records have been lost in the war...?

Thank you!
