In the Scottish Covenantors Index it said - Reid, Alexander Younger.

Does anyone know it this means his fathers name was Alexander?

« on: Friday 11 March 11 01:45 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information on the ancestry of Alexander Reid, he married Mary Muirhead 1809 in Scotland went to Van Diem Land ( Tasmania) Australia in 1821.

In the Clyde Company Paper it said his great grand uncle was Rev. George Reid and his great  grand aunt played a part in the anti-corn law league, she was a sister of Rev. George Reid named Agnes and married David Prentice.

My ancester was James Reid a brother of Rev. George and Agnes (Ried) Prentice.

Any information would be appreciated

Thank you

The article is from the Clyde Company papers on Alexander Reid 1783-1858

It says his great grand uncle Rev. George Reid and his great grand aunt Agnes Prentice.  Does anyone know if this would mean Great Great uncle and great great aunt?  The time period was around 1800s.

Thanks

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Reid, Alexander Younger
« on: Tuesday 29 June 10 00:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was checking for a distant relative and found him on the Scottish Covenanter Index in the year 1650.  I know his name is Alexander Reid but they had Reid, Alexander Younger.   Does anyone know if this means his middle name is Younger or would it mean his fathers name was Alexander.

Thank you

Midlothian / David Firth-Meadowfield Duddington
« on: Sunday 07 February 10 20:24 GMT (UK)  »
I found a picture of David Firth and Mrs David Firth in an old photo album on the back of the photo it says Meadowfield Duddington.

The photo was taken at George Inglis Studio, 78 Clerk Street Edinburgh and I believe they were at this address from 1861 to 1864.  David Firth looks about 40 to 45 years old and his wife around the same age.

I know I am not related to David Firth but am hoping someone might have a David Firth in their family tree and know the maiden name of his wife

Thank you

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Northfield-James Syme
« on: Sunday 06 December 09 16:40 GMT (UK)  »
Mr. A. Nesbit, surgeon in Edinburgh purchased Northfield and other properties in Preston in 1746, he sold Northfield to James Syme, slater in Edinburgh but no date when James Syme purchased the house..

I know that James Syme got married in 1783 and lived at Northfield.

Does anyone know if records were kept of the sale and dates of properties  sold in this time period?

Thanks

I found Helen Murray on Familysearch and it says she was born about 1697 of Uphall, East Lothian and James Reid her spouse was born about 1693.  I have the birth of their daughter Margaret from Scotlandspeople and she was born July 22 1711, that would make Helen Murray about 14 or 15 when she had Margaret.

Does anyone know if this would be a normal age to be married in this time period?

Argyllshire / Completed -Help with Parish names
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 16:04 GMT (UK)  »
I got a document from Scotlandspeople on the marriage of my relatives, but am having trouble trying to read the parish names.

It says Jean Lamont daughter to James Lamont in (I think this is the spelling)   Fisheracnichin in this parish which is Dunoon and Kilmum. Has anyone heard of this name?

Jean's husband is John Ferguson son of Dugald Ferguson in the parish of
Ghindanicl but does say it is the parish of Dunon and Kilmum.

I hope someone can tell me if I"m even close in trying to figure out the names of these places.

Thank You
