Travelling People / The Oriental Troupe 1868 - 1873 England, Ireland and France
« on: Wednesday 28 February 24 07:30 GMT (UK)  »
Indian acrobats active all over England, parts of Ireland and France, which I was able to trace using various newspaper sites

Rajub, Moulah bux and Sumjoo are the main names.

Sumjoo is the main one I'm interested in (there was another person researching his family on here, but that was in 2007)

Tight rope walker, born about 1849 Bombay, India
Marries an Elvina Hall/boxhall 1870 Portsea, Hampshire. Using the name John Sumjoo. Seems to have been a bit of a big deal there's a newspaper article on it

1871 Census hampshire
Living with Inlaws
Professor J Hall Boxall, head, mar, 50, chiropodist, India
Eliza do., wife, mar, 44, Warwick Birmingham -
John SumJoo, son in law, mar, 22, gymnast, India
Roger Boxall, son, unm, 20, do., do. - I think this is actually Rajub
Angelina Boxall, daur, mar, 23, dress maker, Portsmouth Hants -Daughter in law
Eliza Hall, daur, mar, 18, actress, London Middlesex
Elvina Sumjoo, daur, mar, 17, do, Bristol Glo'ster
Nelly Boxall, grdaur, 2, Portsmouth Hants - Angelina's Daughter
Elvina Eliza Sumjoo, 2mo, Portsmouth - Sumjoo and Elvina's daughter

they had 3 other children

Margaret Sumjoo Registered and baptismal name Bagette mina Roger 1875
John Sumjoo 1873 -1874
Eugine Sumjoo 1883 -1900, This one is a bit of an issue as Elvina is a widow in the 1881 census.

Now where on earth would I even look for a death record or even a real name for Sumjoo. The last trace I can find is John Sumjoo's birth  and a news paper article about Sumjoo and Rajub touring France in 1872 or anything on this person

Oh and the hall/boxall side of things is a huge mess, but that's a post for another day

What I know

Taken between 1843 and 1876 (death), of Mary Ann Hokin nee Burt 1788 - 1876.

I just want to narrow it down to maybe the decade, my guess is 1850s or 1860s, but I can't be to sure

Please don't clean the photo up

Australia / Missing Birth Records WA and maybe at Sea
« on: Monday 07 November 22 08:54 GMT (UK)  »
Parents are John Doyle and Hannah McMullen.
He was a enrolled pensioner guard, arrived on board the 'racehorse'
They had 6 children together and she had one from her 1st marriage.

The 1st 3 children I have no records of birth and only baptisms for 2 of them

Catherine Doyle -probably born around 1865 going by the entry on her death record, That says she was born in Tilbury. There is no record of this. Which as lead me to believe she was possibly born at sea and baptised there as well.

Elizabeth Doyle - Born 1867 Perth, baptised 1867 Perth

Rebecca Doyle - Born around 1869 Perth, baptised 1882 Fremantle

I'm all out of idea's on where to look for birth records of these children, does anyone have a clue where I could look next

the next 3 all on BDM

Antrim / What Happened to James Phillips
« on: Monday 16 May 22 08:48 BST (UK)  »
Another one of my head scratchers, seeings I got somewhere with my last one

I have a James Phillips Married 17 Dec 1875 to a Margaret Crothers, Donegore
Fathers Robert Phillips and William Crothers
Sister Margaret Phillips - Married a shoemaker named John Wilson 17th Nov 1875, Donegore

May have been born in the Donegore area around 1859

Children
William 1876, Dundonald scotland
Robert 1878, Ballygowen, Donegore
Margaret/Isabella 1880 Ballygowen Donegore (this one seems to have been registerd as Margaret but in the 1901 Census is Isabella)
James 1882, Ballygowen, Donegore

By the 1901 Census the Family is living on Hillman, Dockward and Margaret lists herself as a widow, 5 Children, the youngest Susan is actually her grandaughter and is Isabella's daughter

1911 Census Canning st Upper, with son and grandson

I've searched Ireland, scotland and england for James Phillip's death, with no luck

Not to be confused with the ther James and Margaret Phillips, they were catholic, this family is Presbyterian. That one died in 1904

Phillips is sometimes spelt Philips

Down / Henry McKee of Bangor
« on: Sunday 15 May 22 08:19 BST (UK)  »
this one has me stumped.

I have a Henry McKee born about 1827, Death Feb 1901 Belfast - have death record, is recorded as a widow

I only know 1 daughters name but there was at least 2 - There's a newspaper wedding announcment, mentioning Sarah is the oldest daughter of Henry.

Sarah Ann McKee, born about 1856, Bangor - from census
She Married a James Morell  13 oct 1881

There's a family burying ground at Bangor church yard, I have no idea which church yard this is, but it will be McKee. As James Morell is meant to be Canadian - but Sarah and James have a daughter buried there  Mary Amelia Morell 1883 - 1887

Henry is listed as Keeper of Kitchen on daughters marriage and Keeper of Dining room on his death record.

anyone have any idea's on where else I can look. I've spent hours going through irishgeneolgy, only to find no other children. In both Belfast and Bangor. The only maybe i've come up with is a marriage Between a Henry McKee and a Mary Ann Brown in 1845, they were both minors

Now there's another Henry McKee in Bangor, he married a couple of Sarahs, but was a grocer. This is not my Henry
