Does anyone recognize the photographer name on the bottom of this photo, and perhaps time and place?

For the life of me, I can't make the letters out, even when trying to adjust contrast/brightness. Perhaps someone else might recognize it? I believe the first word is "The" and then under, "French" but that's all I can see.

Thank you in advance!

Ian

I am trying to confirm a family on the 1861 census in Dundee. There are a couple of anomalies but perhaps some explanation can be offered.

One of the family members that fits is 13 years old. His occupation appears to be an Apprentice (Ap.) something or other.

Later in his life, if it is the same person, his occupation would always be listed as a "Wood Turner."

My biases say that the magnified text in the image is "Turner" for Apprentice Turner - but I'm seeking other opinions as well as to what the text reads.

Thanks so much!

This is a photo that has been scanned and passed on to me. It is the Scott family in Dundee  in 1885. A. Watt Photographer, Dundee.

I am certain of the date - the elderly man is Alexander Greig, father of the wife in the photo, and sitting on his knee is Joseph Scott. Joseph passed away in 1885 at abt 2 years old, while the baby, Sarah Scott sitting on the wife/mom's knee was born in 1885.

I realize the image may not be high enough resolution, but thought I'd try anyway :)

Thank you in advance,

Ian Scott

This is my first post here. Probably the first of many as I go through photos some of which I'm seeing for the first time. I've been doing family research for almost 20 years, off and on - most of my interest has been on the ancestors of John Scott, b. 1872 in Dundee, went to Belfast and married Sarah McDowell. They had two children.

I'm not sure if you'd like me to post other photos to possibly compare to, but would really love to know if anyone can assist with time frame and place of this large family photo.

I'm leaning towards Dundee, (possibly when John Scott went to visit for some event) or, Belfast, and includes maybe 2 or more different family names.
