Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1841 Yorkshire Census Lookup Please
« on: Thursday 10 March 05 13:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

This is a realy vague request but it is a bit of a last resort! Your help would be great as it may just give me that little bit of info to break my brick wall down.

Please could someone look up:

JAMES WORSNOP

in the 1841 Census.

He would be at least 50 years old or more by 1841, probably connected in some way by either birth or living in Low Moor, Yorkshire. Possible occupation from about 1800 was a smithy of some sort so could still be down as this or a retired smithy etc.

As I said, really vague but any help, however small is gratefully appreciated.

Hi

I want to find a genealogy researcher who either specialises or has experiencing researching Methodist ancestors. What I really want  is some research done on my behalf at the Methodist Archives and Research Centre, John Rylands University Library of Manchester.

I am aware that finding a researcher can be a tricky business, so any advise, contacts etc welcome.

The Common Room / rumour
« on: Thursday 06 January 05 16:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have heard a rumour, and this is not something I've read anywhere but just something that someone else has mentioned to me, that its possible we won't be able to order copies of birth/marriage/death certificates for much longer. Apparently because of illegal immigrants faking ID's etc, copies may not be issued for much longer.

Does anyone know anything about this or has anyone heard this same rumour?

Occupation Interests / Occupations as described in censuses
« on: Thursday 30 December 04 15:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I wondered if anyone knows how to find out what a Warehousewoman Cutler would have done/been? This is the given profession of one of my ancestors but I don't know what a 'Cutler' would have done?

As she came from Sheffield, I'm assuming its something to do with Sheffield Steel and the cutlery they made etc, but I wondered if there was a site that gave definitions of various professions as I have some other ancestors with seemingly strange occupations that I don't understand.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
