Anglesey / William ap Humphrey
« on: Sunday 01 December 19 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I have traced back my Anglesey ancestors through patronymic naming back to a William ap Humphrey b about 1745 from Coedana.(ref, his marriage record)

I have his marriage record from the records office to an Anne Parry at Llanerchymedd. The birth of their children in Llanfihangel Tre'r Beirdd, his occupation of shoemaker and his death there.

I have been unable to find any record of his birth or baptism. Can anyone help please?
Thanks for reading.

Montgomeryshire / John Rogers Ironmonger of Llanfyllin (tried to delete)
« on: Monday 18 November 19 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have just found 4 John Rogers who may fit the bill via Family Search so I was trying to delete this but can't find a way.
am trying to find the birth information of a John Rogers who was a grocer and ironmonger in Llanfyllin. He died in 1789 and his wife Sinah claimed his estate, I have a copy of the bond of admon from Nat Lib Wales. I have their marriage, but can not find his birth information which I think might be about 1740+/- . He might have a sister Jane. He brought up my ancestor John Bryan from the ages 4-12 yrs.
There are two John Rogers in the record, one was a flaxdresser and the other the ironmonger.
If anyone can point me in the right direction as I seem to be going round in circles at the moment as they're all common names in the area.
Thank you

« on: Sunday 20 January 19 21:25 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me please what a Supervisor might have done in Machynlleth in 1796. I have a John Packer described as a 'Supervisor' on his daughter's marriage certificate in 1796.
Thank you.

Europe / Phillip and Kate Levy Holland and England
« on: Tuesday 14 August 12 11:33 BST (UK)  »
According to evidence from the 1871, 1891 and 1901 English census, Phillip bc 1820 and Kate Levybc 1829 were both born in Holland, married in Holland and had their 5 children ( Leah b c.1853, Anne bc 1854, Henry bc. 1856, Clara bc 1858, Rachel bc 1861), in Holland before coming to England between 1862 and 1871. (last child born c1861 and not on UK 1861 census).
I have looked on Genlias and every other Dutch site (and associated Jewish sites) I can find and can find no evidence for either the parents or children. I've tried variations on first names and surnames. I've looked for passenger lists, Alien arrivals.
I can find no evidence of their births, marriage or children's births, or entry into the U.K.
Has anyone got any other suggestions. Got to the tearing my hair out stage!
Thank you.

World War One / medal cards information?
« on: Wednesday 13 October 10 10:17 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to make sense of the information on my ancestors WW1 medal card. The bits I've worked out are -
he was Benjamin Bryan, a private in the 7th battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry. Entered the field of war in France 24.7.1915
Now the sections I don't understand -
By Victory medal it has the figures - C/2/102   then the fraction B/3  page 291
By British medal it has do. which I assume is ditto to the above numbers and letters
By Star it has C/2/1B1 page 36   comments disch. 11/11/18

The only other information on there - above the field of war is written - SWB list C/737/2

Thank you

New Zealand Completed Requests / seeking relatives
« on: Sunday 20 December 09 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
This is a long shot! I am looking for descendants of this couple - Richard Bryan and Frances (Fanny) Campbell. They married in Lancashire U.K and came to N.Z. in about 1877/8. They settled in the Dunedin area. Their surviving children were -
1. Benjamin Bryan who married a Helen (Ellen) Smart/Darward and they had a daughter Ngairi Ada Florence Bryan in 1908.
2. Margaret Elizabeth Bryan who probably married, but I haven't sorted out which of several refs it could be.
3. Gwendoline Bryan who married a Robert Webb in 1910.

I would love to find out what happened to these relatives and if I have any surviving relatives in N.Z. :)

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Miserden Parish records
« on: Friday 28 August 09 15:19 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if any one has access to the parish records for Miserden Gloucestershire? I am looking for:
Birth - William Allen bc 1814 in Miserden according to census. (Miserden is not on IGI after 1812)
Birth - George Allen bc 1778 in Miserden (IGI has this, but it is a record added by a member of the church)
Marriage of George Allen c.1803 to Ann (again this is an IGI reference added by a church member)
There is a marriage of a George Ayland to an Ann Hearn, but that is in Arlingham which is quite a way from Miserden.

All help much appreciated as I can't get down to Gloucs records for a while.

Whilst researching in the online newspapers, I discovered a snippet concerning one of my ancestors

"The following judgements were given for the plaintiff, no defence being offered. Superintendent v. (various names) amount still unpaid on immigration bonds . . . also Richard Bryan £6. . . - Mr Hesketh appeared for the plaintiff; Mr J Moginie proving the liability in each case."

This was reported in an 1870 newspaper.

What were immigration bonds? and what had my ancestor done (or not done?)

Thanks
