The Common Room / House research
« on: Sunday 24 September 17 20:40 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers.
It appears that ancestors had a shop at 210 Old Palace Road, Norwich, which my Mum remembers visiting as a child maybe during the 2WW, and being allowed to help out. Sadly the building is no longer there so I don't even have a photo of it. I would love to find out how long it was a shop for and how long our family were there.
I've checked the 1911 census and have found the Tyrrell family there and also in 1901. However not in 1891 and 1881. How can I do a street search for those and the previous census, or do I have to take another route?
I would be most grateful for any suggestions. Thankyou

The Lighter Side / Should Anne and Alice just stay in the box?
« on: Sunday 18 September 16 10:10 BST (UK)  »
I have come to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe I should just stop this family history lark as I just keep getting more unanswered questions.
This week I have looked through a box saved from my in-laws before the house clearance men went in. In the box were a bible and two prayer books. The prayer books given to my Father in law from Cousin Anne, one dated 1954 and the other one had belonged to Anne's mother Aunt Rose and the bible, given to an Alice Cox from a Miss Writer dated 1877. Alice had then written her name and address, 21 Asenby Square, Lindhurst Road, Peckham in the back. The name Cox was my father in laws mother's maiden name but I have no sign of an Alice in the tree, and as for Anne and Aunt Rose, I just know know where they fit in.

The Common Room / Why do they move so much!
« on: Monday 29 August 16 07:03 BST (UK)  »
Just need to let off a bit of steam.
In the 1911 census Charles and Ethel Cox are in Watford, married for 3 years and say they have had 2 children with 1 dying. Their son Charles H was registered in Wandsworth, AMJ 1910 and they married 8/09/1907 at St Pauls, Crewe, Chester.
How on earth can I find the birth of their unknown deceased child when they have moved around so much.
Aaaaagh!!!

Rant over.

Hertfordshire / Lost wedding.
« on: Sunday 01 May 16 14:44 BST (UK)  »
I could scream......................I am trying to fit distant relations onto my husbands tree as we have found some old certificates while going through his parents paperwork, and am finding it hard to fit in names and people.
One group in particular.
We went to a wedding in the early 90s in Hertfordshire The bride was a distant relation of my husband who now cannot remember her first name, just that she was one of three sisters.  We went in substitute for my in-laws who have now both passed away, as they were unable to go. I know the name of the Church and the brides surname but cannot find it listed on ancestry or find my past.

Aaaaagh!! Sorry i just needed to let off steam!!

The Common Room / TV programme
« on: Friday 15 April 16 07:05 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help, please. A few weeks ago I stumbled across a TV programme about the descendants of three sisters in London.  They had been interviewed in the 19th century and their life stories were told by their descendants living today in England and Australia. At the end all living descendants met up. After the programme the announcer said there would be more episodes. But I cannot remember what it was called or what channel it was on to be able to find it on catch up. Did anyone else see it.

Norfolk / Ber Street, Norwich
« on: Wednesday 23 March 16 09:09 GMT (UK)  »
I have discovered that my 3x great grandparents, Thomas and Elizabeth Engall were publicans at the Flecked Bull, 38/40 Ber Street, Norwich in the 1841 and 1851 census. I have also found the photo below of Ber Street. No question really, but just wondered if anyone has a photo of the actual pub as I would love to see where they lived and worked. or can tell me if 38/40 is on this photo, Thankyou.

Technical Help / Can I store my family tree on an Ipad?
« on: Saturday 19 March 16 08:39 GMT (UK)  »
Can I store my family tree on an Ipad? I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been asked if I would like an I Pad for my birthday. Would I be able to use it for storing my family history research and tree on which is currently on a computer.
Does anybody else use one and if so what tree software do you use?

Hertfordshire / Not sure what to do next.
« on: Friday 04 March 16 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
I have just downloaded the marriage entry from Hals of my 4 times great grandparents Stephen Marlborough and Martha England marriage at St Marys Parish Church in Watford 15/10/1806.
I was hoping the witnesses would have been family members to help me find more about the family but the names are not the same. Can anyone advise me on where to go or what to do next to find out where they were born, how can I confirm who their parents were? I hope that I have not finally hit that brick wall!!
Thankyou

Somerset Lookup Requests / Bennett family from Crewkerne to Somerset.
« on: Saturday 09 May 15 12:30 BST (UK)  »
My husband's family lived for many years in Dinnington parish a sub district of Crewkerne, Somerset. However between 1872 and 1878 they made the long journey and relocated in Neath, South Wales. I was wondering if any one could shed any light on why they would suddenly move so far away.
A family story also has a Crewkerne family member being a fisherman who sailed out of Newlyn who I have yet to find. Thats for another day.
