Does anybody know of any cheap online companies that will print out family trees for you on one sheet of paper. I'm getting fed up of glueing 10 pages together :)

Lancashire / William GREENOUGH, born c1793
« on: Sunday 05 August 07 22:18 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the roots of two of my ancestors - known details as below:-

- William GREENOUGH, born c1793 in Little Woolton, Lancashire. In the 1851 census, he was head of houshold aged 58 and lived at 50 TARBUCK ROAD. Occupation was a stone mason and was born in Little Woolton. He also lived with his wife Ellen (aged 36), step-daughter Jane HOUGHTON (aged 18) - house servant, step-son Joseph HOUGHTON aged 16 (stone mason), William (son) aged 12, John (son) aged 10, James (son) aged 8 and Henry (son) aged 6.

- Ellen GLOVER, born c1815 in Wavertree, Lancashire. I know she married a Thomas HOUGTON c1831 before going to marry William GREENOUGH. Only other information I have for her is as above.

Anybody offer any further or advice on tracing further info on these persons?

Lancashire / Birth Certificate info wrong?
« on: Friday 03 August 07 12:27 BST (UK)  »
I have just received a copy of a birth certificate for one of my ancestors, Joseph GREENOUGH born in Liverpool on 7th Sept 1876. Now I was always led to believe that his parents were called Elizabeth Corkhill and John Greenough.

The birth certificate now shows that his father was called Joseph Greenough, however census' seem to show that it is John and not Joseph.

I am just wondering what the probabilty is of the recorder making a mistake and putting the child's name in the father field on the birth certificate? If this is unlikely, can anybody clarify this issue?

Lancashire / Place of Birth - Varies
« on: Thursday 02 August 07 15:55 BST (UK)  »
I am currently looking at my great, great grandparents - Joseph GREENOUGH and Elizabeth (no maiden name). Now I know they had a child called Joseph GREENOUGH born 1876 and their names have been confirmed on Joseph's marriage certificate.

Having looked at the 1881 census and the 1891 census, I have found two records that seem to match; Joseph and Elizabeth GREENOUGH living in Liverpool with a son called Joseph born c1876.

Now, if you look at the place of birth records for Elizabeth, in one census she is down as being born in Hale, Lancashire. However in the other, she is down as being born in the Isle of Man.

The two addresses in the census are just around the corner from each other and so, I find it hard to see that there is a second family with parents with same names as my ancestors as well as children with same names.

Any comments? Any reason why her place of birth would change from one census to the next?

Lancashire / Death Certificate Location
« on: Tuesday 24 July 07 20:30 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find a death certificate for my grandfather. His name is Timothy John GREENOUGH, born 27/03/1913 in Liverpool. From what my father has told me, Timothy died c1963 in Liverpool.

I have checked the BMD on Ancestry.com and also the free BMD but I can't find any death registered for Timothy in 1963 or two years either side of this date.

Any suggestions?

Lancashire / Birth Entry in BMD
« on: Tuesday 24 July 07 19:36 BST (UK)  »
I have my great grandad's marriage certificate, showing him married in 1910 at the age of 33 (this making him born c1877.) His name is Joseph GREENOUGH, born Liverpool. According to the wedding certificate, his father's name is John Greenough.

I'm trying to get hold of a birth certificate for Joseph and the only record I can find is from 1876, Quarter 4, Liverpool district, Volume 8b and page 10. This date ties in with that of his age on his marriage certificate.

Can anybody see any other entries that could be alternatives to the above? Just want to make sure I order the correct certificate ;)

Lancashire / Married twice?
« on: Sunday 22 July 07 16:14 BST (UK)  »
OK, so I have managed to find out that my William GREENOUGH born 1793 features in the 1851 census. In this, it shows he lived with his wife, Ellen, and their children. There is also mention of 2 step-children, Jane HOUGHTON and Joseph HOUGHTON.

From this, it would appeat that William's wife, Ellen (born in Liverpool c1815) was previously married to a male with the surname of HOUGHTON and had two children to this male.

Can anybody offer any advice on this? I can't seem to get any further on this.

Thanks

Cumberland / William SCOTT, b1750 in Great Orton
« on: Sunday 22 July 07 12:26 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information other forum members may have on a distant ancestor, William SCOTT, born 1750 in Great Orton, Cumberland.

William was born on 2nd December 1750 and went on to marry Elizabeth (surname unknown), who was born c1755. They went on to have five children together; Mary, John, William, Joseph & Anne.

All were born in St Giles, Great Orton, Cumberland as far as I can see.

Can anybody offer any further information in relation to these persons?

Ideally, I am looking for Elizabeth's maiden name and also the parents' names of both William and Elizabeth.

Thanks in advance ;)

Note: I've found this parish register on Ancestry.co.uk but I'm not currently a subscriber and reluctant to subscribe if the information isn't contained in the register.
