« on: Wednesday 15 September 10 20:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am researching Baxter's from Kendal, Westmorland.

John Baxter (1825-1885) married Sarah McDonald (1829-1870).  John and Sarah had a number of children, but I am following James William Baxter (1857-1897).  James William Baxter married Elizabeth Drennan (1856-?).  James and Elizabeth had a son named Ernest Baxter (1889-1955) and they lived at 22&23, Chapel Lane, Kirkland, Kendal, Westmorland.

Census information on the family can be found here http://www.briercliffesociety.co.uk/talkback/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2595

Also, I found this tomb information which may relate to my family http://www.northofthesands.org.uk/westmoreland/parish/4/kendal

Also of Agnes Baxter who died December 27th, 1768, Aged 34, and of Margaret Baxter who died November 27th, 1795, aged 63, Sisters to the above William Baxter.

If you are related, or can add to my research, then please get in touch.

Hi, can anyone tell me what medals this man is wearing?  Do you recognise the uniform or regiment?

Armed Forces / Gunner in the 23rd Brigade, Royal Artillery (1869)
« on: Wednesday 28 July 10 18:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am researching Emmanuel Sutcliffe (c. 1833-1869) who was born at Burnley, Lancashire and died at Secunderabad, India.  Other than the census, and the few details on his family gravestone at Habergham Eaves near Burnley, I don’t know very much about this individual.  According to the gravestone, Emmanuel was a Gunner in the 23rd Brigade, Royal Artillery (died May 26th, 1869) and was interred at “Trumalghery Church in India” (Trimulgherry Cantonment Cemetery).

Can anyone provide further information for either, Emmanuel Sutcliffe or the 23rd Brigade, Royal Artillery during May 1869?  Was there action at this time, or should I presume that Emmanuel died of natural causes?  Also, are death certificates available for British soldiers who died in India during this period?

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome!
