Northumberland Lookup Requests / Who Is Alice????
« on: Thursday 28 April 22 18:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I have been stuck for quite some time on my Dryden Family from Belford, Northumberland. I suspect they are nonconformists. I was lucky recently after having my father do a DNA to finally crack John Dryden b1794 and have now found his parents (at least it seems right and I am DNA linked to at least 2 of his brothers) , although still haven't found a birth or baptism. However, it is John's wife Alice who is the most frustrating. I would just love to be able to have her maiden name to be able to track the line back further.

John and Alice had 4 children that I know of; Isabella bc1814 (my 4 x Gt Grandmother), Elizabeth bc1817, Alice bc1820 and Matilda bc1823.  My assumption is that John & Alice must have married around C1813.

Can anyone help finding their marriage, or the baptism of any of the children. Thanks

Hi All

I have been sent a picture of my great grandfather which was a photo inside a photo (if that makes sense). And have cropped it. I know its not that best but was wondering if you kind people would take a crack at colouring it for me.

Thank you all in advance

Armed Forces / What would the Uniform look like?
« on: Tuesday 17 July 12 00:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Not sure if this is the correct board for this.
I have a photo of a photo in a photo of my great grandfather (if that makes any sense). The original of this is no longer with the family, or at least none of this side, so I have no idea what it really looks like other than the image you see.
My great grandfather was in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers from a very young age (prior too and during WW1) and we believe he was trained as a drummer boy eventually reaching the rank of Drum Major. What would the uniform in this picture have looked like? Also would you have any idea when it would have been taken. I know this is a big ask as the photo is so bad and only shows the top half but any help would be truely appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi Everyone

I came across this signed photo amongst a load of Ephemera and was wondering if anyone knew who the man is. He looks really familiar but I can't place him and also can't make out the signature. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance

Hi All

I wonder if you wonderful people could give this photo of my great Grandfather a clean as it needs some TLC. This is the only photo I have of him so it is very precious to me.

Armed Forces / Durham Militia - 1st Royal Veteran Bat. 1780's -1809
« on: Friday 08 October 10 18:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I am brand new to military research and am wondering if any of you knowledgeable people would be able to help me. A few of my ancestors served in the Durham Militia. One served as a Sergeant and retired as a Corporal in 1809 in Gibraltar after serving 23 yrs 6 mths. His service included serving with the Prince of Wales Dragoons and the last 7 years with the 1st R V Bat.

My curiosity is how would I find out what he did during these years and also I would love to know what his Uniforms would have looked like. On the bottom of his release papers it states that he was no longer fit for duty - York Hospital 2 Oct 1809 and was discharged the same day. Would this indicate injuries during some conflict?

Any information would be gratefully received.

Thanks to all in advance

Regards
Brian
