London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Walworth
« on: Tuesday 23 December 08 08:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Hopefully this is the right board for Walworth.

If someone has access to the PR's, could they kindly check for the following both from IGI.

I am looking to confirm the birth record of Joseph FURMINGER (FIRMINGER) bap 9/10/1836 St Peters Walworth (born 7/7/1836)
son of Francis and Sarah.

If you also have the time a quick check for the marriage of Francis FURMINGER and Sarah Elliott 12/8/1832 St Mary, Newington would be nice.

Many thanks
Adrian

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / help finding....
« on: Friday 19 December 08 08:11 GMT (UK)  »
Joseph Furminger b. abt 1837 Bredhurst.

1841 Census HO107 456 b14 F4 P2 indexed as Fenninger born Kent.

1851 Census HO107 1618 F72 P3 - Ancestry has him indexed as Firmenger born London

Cant find himon 1861

1871 Census RG10 946 F70 P4 indexed as Furmyer born Kent.

There is no evidence to suggest his family were ever in London, so birth place should be Bredhurst, Kent.

Can anyone find him in the 1881 census or beyond, or find a death entry ?

As you can see Ancestry have gone out of their way to make him as difficult to find as possible and i've been going a bit  :D looking for him.

Thanks
Adrian

The Common Room / Can anyone read Latin ?
« on: Wednesday 10 December 08 13:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi hopefully someone can help.

Maureen Rawson has a document on her website that is in Latin

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mrawson/latin.html

The Robert Furminger she refers to is also an ancestor of mine, so it would be interesting and hopefully useful to know what this documents says.

Thank you.

The Common Room / Educated Ag Lab !
« on: Friday 17 October 08 08:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have just found that one of my clan and his wife signed their names on the marriage register in 1775.

From every shred of evidence I have they were Ag Labs, there is no evidence to suggest that either they or their parents had money or were educated, in fact more to the contrary. They come from a very rural background with many of the family being relocated under the poor law.

I appreciate that it may be easy to learn to sign your name and not actually be able to read and write, but is it common for the time ?

Kent / Aylesford help
« on: Monday 13 October 08 13:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi

In the IGI there is an emtry for Mary Furminger chr 5/1/1777 at Aylesford

Marriage to Thomas Evernden 18/8/1801 Boxley.

There is a very good chance she is one of my clan, but she never popped up the last time I did a search of the PR's at Canterbury.

If anyone has access to the Aylesford PR's I would love to know who her parents were.

Thank you
Adrian

Kent Lookup Requests / Boxley 1640 - 1678
« on: Monday 13 October 08 08:24 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Hopefully someone can help.

I am looking for the birth and marriage of Thomas FURMINGER.

My research suggests he was probably married in Boxley, certainly before 1678, to Joan.

Maidstone Assizes 15 July 1678 - Indictment of Emblyn Ridge of Boxley, spinster, for grand larceny. On 13 June 1678 at Boxley she stole 2 head-dressings (3s) and £5 in money from Thomas Furminger. (endorsed) Thomas Furminger, Joan Furminger, Frances Waymone. True Bill. Guilty; to hand; reprieved after sentence.

His first child was born in Aylesford in 1673, so the marriage might have been 1670-73. This suggest his birth may have been around 1640 - 48.

There is no mention in the Aylesford PR's of his birth or Marriage. The family are in Aylesford right up until 1802 when the first birth occured in Maidstone.

Iam clutching at straws trying to find his birth and Marriage, so any help would be grately appreciated.
