Down / Belfast, County Down
« on: Thursday 18 June 15 17:50 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor was married in Rostrevor in 1883. On the 1891 and 1901 censi (England), his birthplace is given as County Down. I have recently found him on crew lists, and on these his place of birth is given as Belfast, part of which is in County Down.
I am eagerly awaiting the 8th of next month when many records will be made available. As these will be searchable by Parish, I am at a loss to know which Parishes I should be searching. I have Googled for this information, but am non the wiser!
Can anyone help?
Thank you in advance.

Ireland / Landed Estate Court Records
« on: Friday 01 February 13 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
I found my 2xgreatgrandfather on the familysearch site.I have also seen a copy of the original on FindMyPast.ie.This tells me that "Rental of the lands of MorristownBiller, in the County Kildare, and the lands of Clonfenlough, Rashina and part of Corramore, in the King's County, to be sold by auction, by the Commissioners ( for the sale of encumbered estates in Ireland), at their Court 25th June 1852" The owner of the land is Sir Andrew Armstrong, Bart. and the Petitioner is Emily Mills. Details of each tenant's rent etc. is given.
What I don't understand is, why on every entry on familysearch if you click on a name it says "Event-Probate" Sir Andrew Armstrong was not dead. Probate is not mentioned on FindMyPast as far as I can see.
Can anyone enlighten me please?

If someone lived in Crotanstown in the 19th century, where is a likely burial place?
The people I am interested in were R.C. and quite well off.
Thanks in anticipation of replies.

Kildare / Athgarvan-stonemasons
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 18:20 BST (UK)  »
Robert Malone,my g.g.grandfather was a master stonemason. His address is given as Athgarvan on the marriage certificate of his daughter in 1864.He was still alive in 1872.Between 1881 and 1886 his widow had moved to Liverpool.Would there be any records of master stonemasons? I suppose there were many Robert Malones who died during that period,so finding his death record may be a lengthy job!Any ideas welcome.
