Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Berry marriage
« on: Saturday 15 August 20 15:07 BST (UK)  »
My uncle, Harold Berry, was born in Leeds in 1911. His parents were Harry Berry and Lily Stringer, who were married in 1910, at St Edmund, Leeds.

Harold died in 1940, aged 28. I believe that he was married, but do not know to whom. The only evidence that seems to exist within the family is a couple of photographs. One is of my father and my uncle on my father's wedding day (Sept. 1939) and the other, taken the same day, of the two brothers with a woman and two small children.

There are two marriages registered in Leeds that could have possibly been his, in 1932 and 1933. I can discount the later one. The 1932 marriage is between Harold Berry and Ellen Hawkridge, at the Quaker Meeting House. Does anyone have access to the marriage registers for the Leeds Quakers?

Details of the St Edmund's marriage would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, PeterB

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Marriage of Harold Berry
« on: Sunday 24 July 16 03:59 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to Yorkshire Quaker records? I'm looking for the marriage of my uncle Harold Berry. (b.1911, Leeds and d.1940, Leeds) His father's name was Harry. There are two possible marriages in the YorkshireBMD records.

1932 BERRY Harold / HAWKRIDGE Ellen Quaker Meeting House Leeds QUAK/5/10
1933 BERRY Harold / WELSH Winifred Leeds South Registered Building Leeds SOUTHRB/12/81

On the assumption that he would have been an Anglican, (at least nominally) i bought the certificate for the Winifred Welsh marriage. This turned out to be the incorrect marriage.

The Hawkridge marriage is the only other possibility unless my uncle married further afield than Leeds.
Thanks for any help. PeterB

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Looking for John Clay b. Leeds
« on: Sunday 04 January 15 07:56 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for John Clay. He was born 18/7/1846 at 2 Lowden's Yard, Chatham Street Leeds. I have him living with his parents (John & Theresa) at that address in 1851. In 1861, he is living with his married sister, his mother having died in 1853. The census has him as 15yo and a scholar. I don't have him in 1871, but I think that in 1881 he is working as a groom and boarding in Vassell Street, Nottingham St Mary. His age is given as 34 and he is unmarried. His father was a horse breaker and him working as a groom would fit. After that, I have no information. Thanks for any help.
