Australia / The HALLIDAY family
« on: Sunday 23 May 10 10:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I am a little stuck at the moment.

I have a marriage certificate for Arnold Thomas Halliday married to Dorothy Ruth Dunlevy in Broken Hill, NSW on 8th December 1949.
This was Arnold's second marriage. He was married to a Clara Cummings in Broken Hill NSW 1935.
On the marriage cert to Dorothy it states that Arnold was born in Broken Hill NSW to Thomas Coulter Halliday and Maude Payne.

This is my problem - I cannot find Arnold's birth on the NSW BDM nor any children to Thomas and Maude. I have found Thomas and Maude's marriage and Thomas's death but nothing else.
The one thing I do know is that Thomas and Maude seperated. I am not sure whether this is divorce or Maude died or what happened as I cannot find a death for Maude.

I would like to find out what happened between Maude and Thomas. Thomas is my husband's ggrandfather and Thomas used to lived with my ggrandmother. They did NOT have any children (which was a relief to us!!)

I would also like to know of any other children Maude and Thomas had.

Any information you can give regarding the Halliday's would be much appreciated!! I know I am asking for alot!

Thank You   ;)

Hi

John Dunleavy, born abt. 1815. in Stradone, Cavan, Ireland
Parents are Francis and Emma?
Married to Mary Coyle? who was born abt. 1812 in Stradone, Cavan, Ireland
Her parents are Phillip and Alice
Emigrated to Australia 29 Jan 1842.
All of the above information has come from an emigration record I have found here in Australia.

I would most appreciate if I could find either birth or marriage for John and Mary.

Thank You in advance for your help!!  :)

Australia Lookups completed / Emigration of woman with 2 names
« on: Wednesday 17 September 08 08:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

If anybody could help me on this one it would be much appreciated. It has had me stuck for about 12 months now!

I have my gg grandmother - Catherine Casey - death cert which states her mother as Ellen Clifford. I have tried to search for a birth in NSW but was unsuccessful. Recently I have found a half long lost relative who has filled in some blanks. Now try to keep up as it gets confusing.....

Catherine Donoghue was born to Michael Donoghue and Julia Keating in Goulburn 1861.
Michael and Julia were married in Albury in 1857.
Michael died in 1861

Julia re-married as Ellen Clifford to Charley Russell in NSW in 1862.
They had a son named Charles and apparently on the certificate it states mother's name as Ellen Keating.

Russell is also mentioned on one of my certificates which kind of ties everything together.

I am trying to find out the mystery of the name change and WHO this woman actually was.
On her death cert it states she was born in Cahir, Tipperary Ireland and her father was Clifford. But even the date arrived in Aust seems wrong as it indicates ab. 1862.

If i could find an emigration record or something it would be most helpful   ;)

Any info would be great!

« on: Thursday 26 July 07 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I have recently found out that a member of my family has one this cup. Apparently it is one of the oldest trophies in AFL history. Has anybody heard of this before or know where I could access information about it??

Apparently my great grandfather won it in Newcastle??

Thanks

Australia / Broken Hill NSW Look up Offers
« on: Friday 06 July 07 00:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

Just thought I would offer to look at any records for those of you that may have ancestors in Broken Hill. I will be here for the next 6 months and will be happy to try and find any resources that we might have at our Family History Centre here. We have old school photos, mine records, and some newspaper records plus more.

So if you have anything let me know and I will try and find it for you.

Cheers

Australia / Orphanage Carlton VIC

Hi all

This is more of a query I suppose. My gg grandfather was adopted in 1888. I have looked into this and know that adoption papers do not exist at this time as legal adoptions didnt come in until the 1920's (i think).

I know that my gg grandfather was born in May of 1888 and his adoptive parents were not married until July of the same year. I have researched to see any connection between the biological mother I have found and the adoptive parents but there are none. So my next step is to look at an orphange maybe in Carlton where he was born. Does anybody know where I can start with this search??

Thanks

Australia / QLD/NSW Lookup please
« on: Monday 02 July 07 05:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I am finally back onto the family history track and am now as confused as ever!!

My gg grandmother's name is Catherine Donoughoe. Now on her QLD 1881 marriage certificate to Thomas William Casey it states that she was born to Michael Donoughoe and Ellen Clifford in Goulburn NSW and her age at this time was 20. So I am guessing she was born about 1861.

I have looked at the NSW BDM and cannot find her with parents of this name but have found a Catherine Donohue born to Michael and Julia in Goulburn in 1861 which is the only thing I have found that is anywhere near close. (I did find children to a Michael and Ellen of this town but they were not named Catherine and the year of birth was incorrect)

I was hoping that maybe some info with her death might shed some light on the situation. I have found her death in the Brisbane Grave search as Catherine Casey buried 02/07/1935. Would it be possible for someone to search the death records for me and see if there are parent names attached??

I have also my gg grandfather's police records and there is another surname variation of O'Donoughue in these. But I have searched all of the name variants I can think of.

I cannot seem to find anymore information that can lead me anywhere so any help will be much appreciated!!!

Cheers

Australia / Casey QLD Lookup
« on: Friday 02 March 07 21:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I thought I had found all of the children for Thomas William and Catherine Casey. But after receiving some files I have found that there should be another 3 children. The children that I have so far are Thomas (b. 1883), John Rigney (b.1884), Clifford Henry (b.1885), Charles Vincent (b.1887), Alice (b.1889), William Edward (b. 1891) and Cyril Sarsfield (b. 1897).

The other 3 children that I have not found are thought to be born about 1890, 1894 and 1898. I have a few names that might be of use. Jane Elizabeth, Leo George and Valentine. If someone could please look up these 3 births, it would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks

Andrea
