Kent / School 1920s
« on: Thursday 06 August 20 20:25 BST (UK)  »
I have a school photo taken of my uncle late 20s early 30s. He was born in 1923 in Sandwich and went to the local school.

i am trying to date it. The only clue I have is one of the boys holding a slate with Standard One on it.

Being more familiar with present school years I was wondering if anyone could tell me how classes were arranged then. What would Standard One mean?

Thank you.

Kent / Warmans/Reynolds of Sandwich
« on: Tuesday 07 January 20 11:23 GMT (UK)  »
What are the chances of a father Charles Warman b 1751 Sandwich marrying an Elizabeth Reynolds and his son Charles b 1794 marrying an Elizabeth Reynolds?

I am in a muddle about this! Charles sen married Elizabeth b 1752 at Ash 1778. Charles jun married Elizabeth 1824 at St James' Dover.

The younger Elizabeth most likely born 1800 Woolwich.

Does anyone have an interest in the Warman family of Sandwich.

Help please!

Kent / 1911 Census Sandwich
« on: Wednesday 18 January 17 20:01 GMT (UK)  »

Can any one help me with the census for St Bart's Sandwich?

The parishes are St Mary's, St Peter's and St Clement's. The nearest to St Bart's is St Clement's
but would it be included in that? Or would it be a separate entry? Possibly Worth?

  Thank you.

US Lookup Requests / William Spratling died 1904 San Francisco
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 12:31 GMT (UK)  »
William Spratling was born 1867 in Sandwich Kent UK. The 1881 English census records him living
in Dover Kent with his mother and step father.

The next record I have found shows his death 22nd February 1904, cremated at San Francisco
Columbrian Cemetery. Note says that it was arranged by Jane Roche, his mother.

I can't find any record of him from 1881 till his death. I'm hopeful that someone would be able to
 fill the gap for me.

 Thank you

He Married Kate Bourn 30th April 1916.

Bert's grave is at the Pozieres Memorial in France.

Kate never remarried, she died in 1983.

One of his brothers served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he survived the horrors of the
 Great War.

 Bert was my great uncle.
