Denbighshire / Re: Chirk and Isycoed MIs - WILSON
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 15:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Annette

I'd be very grateful if you could look in the Chirk MIs for me please.

There should be a gravestone for:

Robert Wilson - died 1884
Jane/Jean Wilson - died 1893
and their daughter Margaret - died 1926

It was there until they cleared a lot of the gravestones away to make it easier to mow but when I was there a few years ago it had gone. It was next to Alexander Gordon Wilson (died 1924) I have a photo of this one.

Many thanks

Judy  :)

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Images appearing on login!
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 18:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi  :)

I often have a look at various postings without logging in and just come on when I want to answer something or PM or look at the ToTb Board.

When I log in after looking at an image, even if I've moved from the image to the Welcome or Index Board or to another topic I get a page of the image coming up and when I click it off, I get back to the login page.

I thought that it might be my cache but this doesn't happen when I've just read a text/non-image posting.

Anyone got any ideas as to why it happens, please.

Durham Completed Look up Requests / Jane Nixon (nee Poole) - Completed
« on: Friday 19 November 10 11:48 GMT (UK)  »
Help,  I think I'm missing something!

I have a relative, Jane Poole (b.c 1846,  Denbighshire), the daughter of my 3 x great Aunt who is in Willington with her family in 1861 RG09/3739/100/41

Jane marries an Isaac Nixon in Aukland RD in June Q, 1868 (also showing on Durham BMDs as 1868 Durham West).

The couple then seem to disappear - no deaths, no emigration, not turning up in Canadian or US census (not sure about Australia/NZ)

There is a couple - Isaac and Mary Jane Nixon - who are showing on censuses but this couple married in 1864 in Durham RD and are definitely not mine.

Would welcome any help.

Thank you

Hi

I have this potentially rather lovely photo of one of my in-law ancestors, eliza Griffiths who was a glove maker from Worcester.

Unfortunately my mother in law seems to have cut her out of a larger photo at some stage and then she was put in a sticky frame. I only had 10 mins to take her out of her frame and scan her before flying off so I couldn't clean it or anything  :(

Could someone please get rid of the dust/sticky marks and put her head back on. I don't want her coloured at all.

Thanks ever so.

Occupation Interests / Gunsmith/Gun Maker 1840s - 1870s
« on: Wednesday 06 September 06 23:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if any one could help me please.

I'm trying to find out where one of my ancestors was employed. In the censuses he is listed as a Gun Maker. He does not appear to have been self employed. Early on he seems to have moved quite a bit and then settled in Worcester (Claines).

Name - Edward Matthews, b.c. 1808, Plymouth

His movements -

1830s -Gloucester then Manchester - marriage and birth of first child
1841 - Gloucester - births of children
1841+ - Chester - birht of child
1851 - onwards - Worcester - census info

I was wondering if he might have been connected to the army in any way.

Thanks for any help.

Devon Lookup Requests / Edward MATTHEWS - Gunsmith, b.c.1808, Plymouth
« on: Wednesday 06 September 06 21:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm trying to find the baptism or birth of Edward Matthews who was born circa 1808. All census entries I have for him record his birthplace as Plymouth. I have been told that there is a baptism entry for someone of the same name in Exeter but I can't reconcile this with census information.

The first information I have is on the 1841 in Gloucester where he is living with his wife Caroline (nee Sweetman) HO107/379/1 v 11 p14. He later moved to Worcester - Claines.

Grateful for any information.
