Ireland / Family Migration in Ireland?
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 05:12 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if families that once lived in small townlands during the late 1800's, would have decendants still living in and around those townlands today?

What is the likelyhood that 2nd and 3rd generations of a family would move to another townland and or county in Ireland?

I'm trying to figure out if families that once lived in a certain townland in the early 1900's would still have decendants living in the area.

Thanks!

Tipperary / Ryan Family from Drom
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 05:07 BST (UK)  »
I'm researching Edmund and Hannah Shelly Ryan, they were married June 2, 1833 and had four boys named Philip br. March 1834, John Edward Oct. 1835, Michael Sept. 1838 and Edward June 1844. Hannah brought with her two children from her first marriage to John Shanahan; Mary br. May 1832 and Patrick abt. 1833.

Edmund and Hannah list Judith Ryan as a godparent to one of the baptized children. I'm guessing Judith could be a sister to Edmund.

This family came to the USA around 1854 according to American Census Records. They settled in Ft. Thomas and Newport Kentucky.

I'm looking for anyone who may connect to this family.

Thank you!

McCabe Family Roots Request

Thank you for taking time to read my request. I am Patrick Ryan living in the United States and spending my free time researching my family roots from Ireland.

I would appreciate any information you may be able to present. I’m looking to reconnect with distant relatives so that I may learn even more about our history.

My great-grand mother Mary Ann McNally McCabe wrote in her cook book that her husband Harry “Jake” McCabe had relations in Bally Bay Monaghan. Jake spent all his life living in Terre Haute, Indiana USA. He was born Jun 16, 1880 died January 16, 1947.

Jake’s parents were Henry and Maria Lewis (LaPlante) McCabe. The LaPlante maiden name was Maria’s adoptive parents name. Maria McCabe and her two daughters Harriet and Maria McCabe Wickes moved to Manhattan during the 1920’s until their deaths from 1926-1935.

Henry McCabe came to the USA around the mid 1860’s along with his brother Michael J McCabe and sister Margaret McCabe who later married Francis Campbell.

Jake’s brothers and sisters were:

John Francis McCabe
Edmund L McCabe
Maria McCabe Wickes
Rose McCabe Hauser
Richard M McCabe (died age 2)
Harriet Margaret McCabe
Catherine Louise McCabe
Florence Anna McCabe

Cavan / McNally - Townland of Shanco
« on: Friday 15 September 06 14:39 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for taking time to read this post. The information below was given to me by a Priest who looked up the baptismal record for Mary Ann McNally.

Elizabeth FOX McNally and her husband Patrick McNally were living in the Townland of Shanco which is 5 to 6 miles west of Carrikmacross at the time of the baptism for their daughter Mary Ann McNally September 22 , 1878.

Perhaps you're related to the McNally's living in and around Shanco? Can anyone tell what Parish that's in?

Thank you,
Patrick Ryan

Cavan / Duffy and Fox in Caven
« on: Friday 15 September 06 14:12 BST (UK)  »
Thank you for taking time to read my post. I have what could be some very useful information relating to my family history.

My great-grandmother (Mary Ann McNally McCabe) wrote the following information in her cook book sometime between 1920 until her death in 1952. Her mother was Elizabeth Fox married to Patrick McNally circa 1878.

I've attaced a copy of the cook book page so you can see how it was orignally written.

Catherine Duffy Lesnadora, Shercock
Patrick Fox Corrachora Shercock
Michael Fox heirs, Rebane Ballytrain
Carricmacross where I was baptized

Michael Fox children
Patrick Fox 249 East 82nd Street New York, NY
Mary Redding 709 Amsterdam Avenue New York, NY

Does anyone recognize the townland names? Are you perhaps related to the Duffy and Fox family's that lived in those areas?

Catherine Duffy is listed as a Godparent to Mary Ann McNally. Mary Ann's mother is Elizabeth Fox McNally. I'm assuming that Catherine could be a sister to Elizabeth and therefore be a Fox.
