Cumberland / Joseph Fleming, Brigham, Cockermouth.
« on: Wednesday 30 August 23 21:18 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone researching this family please?  I have Joseph Fleming born 1828 and brother Robert born 1834, both Cockermouth.  I cannot get back to their father Robert, as the only information I have is from Joseph's marriage certificate to Frances Hodgson on 24/7/1856, which states that his father Robert is deceased.  Robert (brother) was married after Joseph so the same certificate information will apply.

Also there are probably other children, but I haven't found them.

Are there are other ways I might find their father?

Australia / Amos Nathan Bigg
« on: Sunday 09 October 22 17:49 BST (UK)  »
I've been looking for this person for years and recently found him in the Western Australia Court Records in Bunbury, where he was fined for disorderly conduct. I had lost track of him in England after the 1891 Census but I knew he was thrown out of the Navy after striking his commanding officer, and assumed he had gone abroad.  He was born in Chatham, Kent, in January 1875 and his parents were Julia and James Bigg, who were my paternal great-grandparents.

I think he was working as a deck hand on coastal shipping in West Australia, but I can't find anything else.  Is he in your tree, or is anybody else researching him please?

Thanks in advance.

United States of America / Peter Taylor
« on: Sunday 16 May 21 16:02 BST (UK)  »
Peter and his brother Henry were born in Ince in Lancashire and were coal miners.  Between 1908 and 1925 they both made trips to Canada and the USA to work as miners.  Henry returned to England permanently in 1925 but Peter had died in1923 and is buried in Marissa , Illinois.  I would like to find out whether Peter had any children in the USA, or anything else about his time in Canada and the USA.  In 1910 he was working at the Roundup Coal Camp School District, Yellowstone and was living with an English family called Highan.  In 1920 he was at Wood River, Madison, Illinois living with an English family called Hall.  I have a photo of his gravestone which I found on the internet.

Any information would be welcome.  Thanks.

Aberdeenshire / George Stephenson born c1833,
« on: Thursday 15 June 17 22:05 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the birth of George Stephenson.  The only information I have from the 1871 English census is that he was born in Scotland in 1833.  I believe he was married to Margaret Peterson at Turriff, Aberdeenshire on 23rd December 1865.  He is listed in the 1871 English census as living in Sculcoates, Yorkshire.   In the 1881 English census he is still in Sculcoates, and his occupation is listed as Grocer.

Any information would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

US Lookup Requests / Ivy Rosamund McConney
« on: Tuesday 21 February 17 18:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for the death of Ivy sometime between 1970-75, in the U.S.  Unfortunately, I don't know where she died but her last known address was 564 W 149th Street, New York in 1937.  Her maiden name was Noel, and she had been married firstly to James Phillips and after his death she married Joseph McConney on 26th June 1926 in New York.  She was born on 8th October 1889 at Hillswick Village, Barbados BWI.  Children were Rosamond, Noel, Kempson and Ruby.

Any information would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Other Countries / Barbados British West Indies
« on: Saturday 18 February 17 23:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for information on births, marriages and deaths in Barbados between 1910 and 1920 for James Phillips and Ivy Noel.  Ivy was born in Somerset, Barbados and married James Phillips who was also born on Barbados (don't know where).  Ivy lived on her uncle's sugar plantation until she was eight, when she went to the U.S.   They had four children, Rosamund in 1912, Ruby born in 1920 on board ship en route for England, and two boys Kem and Noel between those two dates.  At the time Ruby was born, their abode was given as New York, and James' occupation was "hallman".  Does anyone know what this job is?  James died in Barbados in 1920 and Ivy died sometime between 1970-75 in the U.S.  From Google I have found that the Noel family was one of the first to buy plantations in Barbados and the family history goes back to England in the 1660's.

I hope someone might be able to help.

Thanks.

United States of America / Amos Nathan Bigg
« on: Thursday 23 June 16 21:15 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find Amos Nathan Bigg (often misspelt Bugg, Biggs, Begg, Bogg, etc.).  He was born in Chatham, Kent around 1875 and the last time I can find him is in the U.K. 1901 Census in the Navy in England.  I have not been able to find a death record for him in the U.K. but there are connections with Philadelphia as some of the family travelled there in 1894 (but not Amos).  I am also looking for his father, James, as I believe he may have lived in the USA between 1891 and 1894.

This is a long shot, but maybe something will turn up?
