Australia / George STANLEY
« on: Friday 20 April 12 14:52 BST (UK)  »
I've recently discovered that my 2x great grandmother's cousin George Stanley was transported to Tasmania in 1847 after being convicted of rape at York . George was born in Bentley, Yorkshire c 1828.  George's sister Sarah & her husband Lawrence Rockliff emigrated to Australia in 1853 & settled in New South Wales.  I would love to know what happened to them.

Dublin / St Bridget's Dublin
« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 13:47 BST (UK)  »
I've found my 2x gt grandfather Peter Curran's army records & his place of birth is the parish of St Bridget's, Dublin.  He enlisted 19 Aug 1858 aged 19.  Does anyone know if the baptisms are online please.
He settled in England after he was demobbed 26 Aug 1879.  On the 1881 census he is living with his widowed mother, Mary in Brandon, Durham.  Peter married Catherine Hastey & on the marriage certificate his father's name is James.
Peter disappears after the 1891 census & Catherine is with John Nicholson in 1901.
Thanks.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Arksey burial look-up please
« on: Tuesday 09 September 08 16:52 BST (UK)  »
I would appreciate it if someone could check the burial records in Arksey for Bernard & Iris Yates in 1919, (death registered Oct-Dec) I think they're twin babies & Doreen K in 1926 (death registered Oct-Dec).

If I'm right & they're my grandparents children, the address should be 26 Rostholme Square, Bentley.

I was hoping to get to the archives this week, but I'm not able to now.
Thanks pickersj

US Lookup Requests / Harrisburg Dam Burst
« on: Monday 05 May 08 19:00 BST (UK)  »
My great grandmother, Edith White nee Palin died in 1927 in Harrisburg. According to a letter wriiten by her husband, she was taken ill but didn't get into hospital in time because of a dam bursting. An ambulance was sent for but it either couldn't get through or they were all being used for casualties.
If anyone has any info about this I'd appreciate some help.

Cheers Janet

Durham Lookup Requests / Am I missing something
« on: Saturday 07 April 07 18:39 BST (UK)  »
I can find this family in the 1891 census but not in the 1901 census.

Peter Curran age 50 born Ireland
Catherine      age 42 born Birtley
John              age 13 born Leadgate
Mary              age 11 born Milkusburn
Catherine      age  8  born Ribblesworth
Jane              age  6  born Brandon
Frances         age  4  born Brandon
living 6 East Street Brandon & Byshottles Durham

I think Catherine's age is wrong.

On Frances's birth certificate her mother's name is Catherine Curran, late Slater, formerly Hastey.

On Catherine & Peter's marriage certificate, Catherine is age 27 & a spinster, her name is spelt Hazey.  They married at Durham Register Office 13th October 1884.

I think this is Catherine, with her first husband & the two oldest children on the 1881 census.

John Slater age 26 born Crook
Catherine   age 24 born Black Fell
John           age  2  born Leadgate
Mary Ann age 9 months born Milkwell Burn
living Hedley Woodside Northumberland

I'd appreciate a second opinion on this please.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / John Pickersgill in Kippax
« on: Wednesday 21 February 07 09:55 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to trace my husband's gt grandfather John Pickersgill & have hit the proverbial brickwall.
I've got John's marriage certificate. John married Hannah Rhodes 25th December 1896 at Kippax Parish Church. John's father's name is missing, so it looks like he was illegitimate. John's address is Church Lane, Kippax.
On the 1901 census John age 29 is a Stone Quarry Labourer living in Main Street Monk Fryston.
I can't find a birth certificate for John or him in the 1881 & 1891 census.
I did find a Sarah Pickersgill marrying Richard Beeston, Apr-Jun 1873 reg Tadcaster. In 1881 they are living in Church Lane Kippax with their son John age 9. Their next door neighbour is Ann Pickersgill, widow & her family.
I haven't been able to find a birth certificate for John Beeston or him in the 1901 either.
If anyone has Kippax Parish records I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks Janet
