Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Harvey Rowell
« on: Saturday 09 February 19 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
Please can someone help me with my mysterious Harvey Rowell (who is driving me a little insane)

He married Margaret Burton (née Morgan) in 1917 in Wakefield. He was 25 and his father was Albert Rowell a Coal ***** (can’t quite work out what it says. On the certificate they are both living at 2, New Street and his rank in Private (KOYLI) (General Labourer)

His son Harvey Rowell Burton (although not named on the BC) was born in Oct 1916, also in Wakefield.

I can not find Harvey Snr or his father anywhere either on Ancestry or Find My Past - is it just me, am I missing the trees for the wood?

Any help would be appreciated - Thank you in advance.

The Common Room / Help me unravel the truth....
« on: Monday 05 November 18 23:43 GMT (UK)  »
So here’s a puzzle for you to solve.

My G grandmother married in 1905 and had 4 children. One died but all 3 were living with her in 1911 - her husband however was not.

Sometime before 1914 those three children went to live with various members of their fathers family.

In 1914 my grandmother was born. My G Grandmother was living at the same address her my grandmothers father and his name was ‘Henry Thomas’.

One year later my G grandmother bigamously married a third man (her first husband died in 1918) purporting to be a widow and manipulating her name somewhat on their marriage certificate.

I loose sight of my G grandmother after this marriage and there are no family stories as my grandmother was brought up in an orphanage with the only ‘recollections’ of her parents being disproved by research.

I never really looked for ‘Henry Thomas’ thinking that with only a name and a fairly common one at that it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Fast forward 10+ years and I’m in the local history centre of the town in question so decided to research the address a little. There was nothing on the electoral registers but from 1911 - 1915 there was a Thomas Henry Parish at the same address.

It HAS to be the same person.

On the 1911 census he is with his wife and he is 76 which means he was 79 when my grandmother was born 😱😱

I presumed his wife must have died sometime before my grandmother was born and that his death 3 months before my G grandmothers bigamous marriage was the reason she did marry again.

So I ordered his death certificate in the hope I may get some answers from the informant.

But nooooooooo, the informant was his wife (or rather his now widow) living at the same address.

If you’ve been brave enough to make it to the end of my VERY long post I would appreciate any input 🙈😱

The Common Room / Twins / Stillbirth
« on: Tuesday 14 October 14 23:27 BST (UK)  »
Good Evening

My GG Grandfathers time of birth is recorded on his BC which I, if I am correct, indicates that he was one of a multiple birth. However, there is no other birth recorded for that surname / year and quarter / district. I can only assume that this means stillbirth  :(

My question is would a stillbirth be recorded anywhere back in 1849?

Thanks in advance.

He moves to Leeds before the 1861 and then is in Durham (the workhouse) on the 1901.
He is a French Polisher.

Many many thanks in advance.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / 1891 Census help - Kitching
« on: Sunday 02 March 14 15:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

After a recent 'whim' visit to Kew I have discoveed who lived in my housein the early 1900,s (which was a surprise in itself as we didn't think it was built until the 20's).

Due to the fact that we have regular 'unexplained' activity in our house I thought it would be fun to research the family but I have managed to hit a brick wall already.

I have found them in the 1911 and 1901 census but am lost on the 1891 where there should be:

Charles Frederick Kitching b1859 Frampton Lincolnshire
Emeley Kitching b1859 New Wortley Leeds
Frances Beatrice Kitching b1888 Armley (or Bramley) Leeds
Reginald Aubrey Kitching b1890 Armley (or Bramley) Leeds

And possibly other children (the 1911 census states a total of 6 children although 5 have died).

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

The Common Room / Why would he go to Parliament?
« on: Monday 19 September 11 18:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I dont know where to start with this one.

My 4 x G Aunt apparently remembers that at the begining of Parliament each year a coach would arrive to take her father (my GGG Grandfather) to London.

His name was John William Fell of Horsforth / Cookridge / Adel in Leeds born 1839.

He was a silk mill manager / millwright & machine maker.

Would anyone have any idea's why he would be going to Parliament and how where I would start to research this further.

Many thanks in advance
Jo
