« on: Wednesday 01 November 23 08:33 GMT (UK)  »
Finally … I have now established that my gt gt grandmother was buried at “ Bromsgrove, All Saints - March 2nd 1938 “

Found the church but not too sure where the actual cemetery is 🤷‍♀️

This has been such a mission - can anyone give me a clue as to where it is located , please.?

Thank you 😊

Hi
Several years ago ,whilst browsing, I came across records relating to the above.
I saved the link and continued to dip in and out of it periodically.
They were mainly one line entries giving details of the deceased and circumstances of how they met their end !  It was really interesting and often more than a little sad - just a little snap shot of life then and how things change !

Anyways … imagine my disappointment when I’ve recently tried the link again and it doesn’t work.
I’ve tried all sorts of searches to no avail.
From memory I found it when looking at BMDs as they were also included in the link , and probably via The Records Office , but I honestly can’t remember.

Hopefully someone will know what I’m talking about !

Worcestershire / Bromsgrove burial….
« on: Thursday 12 August 21 15:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I've asked this before but haven't been able to find what I'm looking for without going to The Hub or purchasing a CD🤦‍♀️

It's a really simple request …
Has anyone got straight forward access to Bromsgrove burial records please..?

I'm looking for my Gt Gt Grandmothers grave..
She was Elizabeth Sarah Stiles (nee Fortnam)
Died March 1938 - on a Sunday and her funeral was held at All Saints Church on a Wednesday exact dates unknown!

I have lots of details including cuttings from the local paper ,detailing her long life as a local business woman, info about her funeral - who was there/who sent floral tributes -  and who she left her wealth to ..but not where she was laid to rest.
Her husband George Albert predeceased her in June 1907, but again I can't find anything about where he ended up - but presume they are together. They also lost 2 young children but again no trace of where they are!

I've been trying to solve this mystery for years - even walked round All Saints cemetery .
My late Mum used to recall visiting the grave, walking up some steps so I'm presuming it was this one.🤷‍♀️

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

Worcestershire / Mary Ann Fortnam /Tongue ??
« on: Wednesday 09 September 20 14:23 BST (UK)  »
I’ve been trying for a while to confirm details of my gt gt Aunt...
She was born MARY ANN FORTNAM in 1850 - Bentley/Feckenham area.
I know quite a lot about her - who her parents and siblings were ( her sister Elizabeth Sarah is my gt gt grandmother)  and I think she married an Alfred John Tongue. Possibly had a son - Ernest Alfred and settled in Redditch ??

However ..... if all info I’ve seen is correct she is listed on the 1891 Census as also having a 1 yr old daughter - Margaret A(?)born in “Warwickshire/Birmingham” , but I can find no record of either a birth or death of this child. ??

It’s strange as I have so much info about Mary Ann’s sister and her family (my direct relations ),  but I’m really struggling with her. My gt gt grandmothers obituary - in 1938 - is almost half a page in the local paper but no mention is made of her sister or her family - either living or deceased.

The biggest mystery for me concerns the child .. maybe the census is wrong ??
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.!

Worcestershire / Steam Mill , Hunt End.
« on: Tuesday 07 July 15 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Please can anyone help me find information about a Steam Mill which was located on what is now called Feckenham Rd in Hunt End, Redditch. I believe it may have been converted into cottages but would be really interested to know when and any other information as to where exactly it was and what it was used for .

I've tried but have limited time so any help would be great.  Or just a clue as to where to start!

Thank you

Worcestershire / Francis John Harris - Evesham War Memorial ....
« on: Saturday 06 September 14 06:45 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone know if there is background information available on soldiers named on Eveshams Memorial please ?
Until very recently I was unaware that my Gt Gt Uncle - Francis John Harris - may have lost his life in Mesopotamia during WW1. He was in the 9th Worcestershire Regiment and I've found various records that give date and location but not that one little piece of the jigsaw to definitely confirm!
I have managed to trace another Gt Uncle who is buried in France and details of his resting place confirm his home address and parents names.....

Family folklore says that my Gt Gt Grandmother sent 6 sons to war and they all came back , however if this is indeed my Francis, something is not quite right!
I believe he married Ada Annie Sutton and had 3 daughters - but cannot find any more births or indeed a death record for him.

Any help, as usual, would be really appreciated !

Worcestershire / Bromsgrove Rovers FC
« on: Friday 27 September 13 16:54 BST (UK)  »
I'm wondering if anyone has any local knowledge regarding the history of Bromsgrove Rovers Football Club ?

It is rumoured within my family, that in 1885 a relative financed the purchase of a piece of land to enable The Club to be established.  I'm aware that unfortunately Bromsgrove Rovers are no more but we have also heard that the land cannot be resold for development due to a covenant placed at the time of purchase.  This particular relative of mine seems to have been a very very good business woman, ahead of her time, and I would love to find out more about her dealings!

Worcestershire / Missing Margaret Tongue.....
« on: Monday 14 January 13 14:01 GMT (UK)  »
Please can anyone help finding any  information regarding my possible  gt gt Aunt - Margaret Tongue ?

As far as I can see she was born in Birmingham in 1890, however this is from the 1891 census - I can find no trace of an actual birth record, anywhere.

She appears on the 1891 census living in Redditch with her alleged mother - Mary Ann - nee Fortnam - and father - Alfred J (John?) Tongue.  Both parents were born in Bentley/Tardibigg (Worcs) on or around 1850. I think they married in Dec 1873, registered as Worcester.
One son - Ernest A (Alfred?) was born in Dec 1874.

Apart from that one mention of Margaret I can find absolutely no trace of her from that period...
No death/marriage or on later census searches.  Although I can trace the other 3, despite being transcribed as " Longue" in 1901!

it all seems a bit strange as if she was indeed Mary and Alfreds daughter she arrived a long time after their son and was born in Birmingham not locally in Worcestershire ?

There is probably a very simple explanation - perhaps someone just made a genuine mistake when taking down details at the time, but its proving to be most annoying?

Maybe another pair of eyes will solve the mystery for me, any help would be most appreciated.
