Glamorganshire / William Dempsey Bute Dock policeman
« on: Sunday 11 April 21 18:26 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for further information regarding my maternal G Grandfather William Dempsey 1859-1942. William was born in Sully to Irish Immigrant parents. The family first appear on the 1861 Wales census, his father is working and the family are living at Hays farm Sully. At 13 he is listed as a farm servant. 1881 he’s a farm labourer in Lavernock. By 1891 he’s married to Emma Morgan they have three children and they are living in Canton he is now listed as a policeman. In total they have 7 children ( I have discovered 5 of the 7 children) 1911 the family is living in Seymour street Splott. William lives at this address until his death in 1942.
I would like to learn more about his life as a dock policeman, any information regarding his life growing up and working on farms.

The Common Room / Help needed with Great Aunt Norah
« on: Saturday 22 February 14 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I really need your thoughts on what I think I  know about my great aunt.
Norah Winifred Dempsey was born in 4th qtr 1903, in Cardiff. Youngest child of William and Emma nee Morgan. The family are living in Seymour street, Cardiff in 1911 (gr grandfather lived at the same address until his death in 1942.)
I have a possible  marriage for Norah to Benjamin H Townsend, in 4th qtr 1930 Fylde Lancashire. 8e 1261. Given that Norah's family lived close to and worked at the docks in Cardiff, it's plausible that she met Benjamin in that way, given Fylde is also on the West coast.  I have 2 possible births connected to the marriage, 2 daughters born 1930/ 40's in South Shields. Norah's sister was married and living in South Shields.
I don't know where Benjamin was born so don't know how to look for a birth for him. Do I treat the 2 births as highly probable, until budget allows to purchase any certs.
I look forward to any thoughts or suggestions you may have, no matter how trivial. Many thanks for taking the time to read this

The Common Room / Uncle Jack. My final maternal brick wall
« on: Wednesday 29 January 14 12:43 GMT (UK)  »
Any help appreciated,
My maternal uncle 'Jack' was born in Cardiff, Sep quarter 1924. 1 of 9 children. My mother passed when I was 17, at that age I never dreamed of asking about family history, and over the years bit by bit, I have managed to discover information on all the other 8 siblings. 'Jack' was his middle name, I believe he must have passed away but don't even know where to start on finding his death cert. The only information I have on him is that he spent more than 1 occasion in prison.
A geneticist in Cardiff has requested family history for medical reasons, I need help with uncle Jack, because I haven't found his death I haven't included 1st name or surname. Any suggestions on where to start would be very much appreciated, I know this is a long shot but, fingers crossed.

Cork / Richard O'Brien & Mary Buckley
« on: Monday 26 March 12 21:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am hoping someone can help me with my 2x Gr Grandparents
Richard O'Brien / Brien / Brian b 1837 d 1884
Mary Buckley b 1833 d 1885
Their 2 eldest sons Mathew b 1860 and John b 1862 both boys born in Ireland
The family I have on the 1871 Wales census
Their daughter Hanora was born 1864 in Cardiff
On the 1911 Wales census John says he was born in Cork
can anyone find any information on the family before they arrived in Wales around 1863
I'm guessing the family originated from County Cork
