« on: Saturday 30 November 19 15:45 GMT (UK)  »
I've been trying, without any luck to find out where the School Records of St Mary's Convent, Tweed Street, Berwick upon Tweed, 1910/1930 can be found. I've tried Northumberland Archives and National Archives among lots of others but no luck whatsoever. The  Convent is now a School, I've spoken the them but they have no idea where the records can be found. I don't know Berwick would anyone know if there was a nearby Catholic Church that would have associated with the Convent (Ursuline Nuns) . Most grateful for any help.

Canada / Canadian War bride WW11 passage?
« on: Wednesday 22 August 12 09:27 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find War brides passage to Canada.
Marriage 1943 Staines Middlesex UK.
Irene Doris Batchelor married Canadian soldier  R. M. Gough serving in England during WW11.
I have found her and infant son (Melvyn Richard Gough) returning to England passage Jan 1947. All contact with Canadian family then lost.
I've looked on Ancestry.com and also Find my Past but nothing shows up.
Nothing is known of R. M.  Gough other than family may have had some connections to Browns Shipping.
During  a lady named Edith Kozbal someway connected to the Canadian Gough family arrived at young Melvyn's homes saying that his Canadian family wanted to make contact. Unfortunately Melvyn didn't want anything to do with the family and never took contact details.
Irene and Melvyn are no longer alive but the descendants would like to make contact with the Canadian side of the family.
Can anyone offer advice.

Armed Forces / Trying to discover name of my fathers regiment WW11
« on: Monday 22 August 11 00:12 BST (UK)  »
I've been trying to get my late fathers Army records  (WW11) for the past 12 yrs and haven't had much luck. The Army Records Office haven't been able to trace him because I've no idea of his regiment or his service number.

All I do know is that he was stationed in Italy and many years ago an old friend of his said that Dad lied about his age so that he could enlist. Dad was born 1925 probably in Ireland. He left Ireland 1938 before finishing school and it's thought he came to England with a family named McElhinney who probably fostered him.

I have no more details until he married my mother in 1948, he was then residing in Manchester. I do remember a sheet of passport size photo's of Dad as a young man in Army uniform and I also think that one of his Army badges had Manchester on it I do know that on one side of the badge there was a lion holding a shield the other side may have been a kind of unicorn.

I am enclosing the only photo that I have of Dad in uniform. Extremely greatful for any help/advice.
Regards Jackie.
