Travelling People / Bacon Family of Timbercroft Lane Plumstead
« on: Friday 08 January 16 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
Does anybody have any information on the Bacon family who lived in Timbercroft Lane, Plumstead.

My 2xGrandmother Mary Roberts married Edward/Albert Bacon and had a son Frederick Bacon.

After Mary's death in Sussex (family lived around Ore), the family moved to Timbercroft Lane and lived with the Smith family (Albert Sister) and Frederick married Dorcas Swann.

In 1937 Albert was a Pedlar and Fred was a Wreath Mosser and they worked around Covent Garden

Cheers

Travelling People / Census Occupations
« on: Friday 08 November 13 12:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have the 1851 and 1861 Census for my 3 x Grandfather William Rhodes a Horse and Cattle Dealer from Sussex. On both Census a Frances Coleman is down as Servant and in the 1861 Census my 2 x Grandfather Frederick Deacon is down as a servant as well. Frederick went on to by a Horse Dealer, so the question i have if anybody knows, is the use of Servant instead of Apprentice?
Many thanks

Travelling People / Whitehorn Family
« on: Thursday 31 October 13 13:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I wondered if anybody had come across the Whitehorn family. My 4 x Grandmother was Sarah Whitehorn who firstly married William Mayo and when he died Job Light in Surrey.
Sarah occupation was Hawker and on the marriage certificate to Job Light here father is down as Daniel Whitehorn Hawker. Sarah travelled Sussex and Surrey and in 1845 a James Deacon whose father was William Deacon (Brush Maker) married a Elizabeth Whitehorn (Hawker) whose father was John Whitehorn (Hawker). I am interested as my line is also the Deacon family and there seems to be links as the Light family also married into the Deacon family
Many thanks

Travelling People / Deacon Family

Hi

I am after some help in tracing the Deacon family of Sussex. The family were travellers and i have traced back to a James Deacon who married a Henrietta. I have no further details on James but from a Baptism at Slindon their son was also called James and he married Elizabeth Mayo in 1837 in Chichester. I have traced their siblings, but what i am really after is on Frederick Deacon Baptism off 1849 at South Berstead his father James occupation is Hawker from North Berstead. A year later a Mary Ann Deacon was baptised in South Berstead and her parents were Thomas and Hannah and Thomas was a Hawker from North Berstead. I believe that James and Thomas must be related and i wondered if anybody could help finding the link. Would it be a fair assumption that if there are travellers surname Deacon/Deacons/Deakins travelling Hampshire/Sussex/Surrey they would be all related?
Many thanks

Many thanks
