Lanarkshire / Old Globe Cemetery, Motherwell
« on: Monday 30 September 13 07:35 BST (UK)  »
I have recently moved house, and have now found that I can walk (20mins) to cemetery. Grandson loves walk too.!!

I know in the past that people have shown an interest in relatives interred here. Sadly, a large number of headstones have fallen, and, hence, cannot be read.

but I am more than happy to visit and take more photos of the general area, and do a wee bit of looking for names.

Just got new pc...hence why I have been away for a while.. sorry!!

Regards

Gail

Lanarkshire / Globe Cemetery, Motherwell.

I remember there was a thread a while back, regarding this cemetery. I have, at long last found it!

I have a couple of pics of stones that may be of interest. I plan another visit, as it is about 20 minutes walk from my new house.

If anyone has a surname that they know is buried here, let me know, and I will try my best to locate, and take a photo..if possible.

Cheers

Gail. :)

Lanarkshire / Suggestions Please!
« on: Tuesday 20 November 12 20:25 GMT (UK)  »
I am hoping that one of you learned RootsChatters can help me out.

I have tried, in vain, to find the birth entries for both my gtx3 grandfather, and his older sister.

I am looking for the births of both William Coventry,c 1851/52, and his sister Anne/Agnes Coventry, c 1849/50.

Using census entries, I have the family living in Gorbals, 1851, and Port Glasgow, 1861.

I have used these areas, initially, in finding birth entries. The parents of William and Anne are William and Maria (nee White) Coventry. Although married in Glasgow, William and Maria were born in Ireland.

Any ideas as to where else to look, besides ScotlandsPeople, would be appreciated.

Also, can anyone confirm, did all births have to be registered at this time..

Many thanks.

Scotland / Breadalbane

Hello fellow Rootschatters.

Probably a silly random request, but looking for correct pronunciation of Breadalbane!

Visiting Balqhidder and Killin recently, I see this area often referred to. Curious as to whether emphasis is on Bread or Albane!

Many thanks.

Ireland / William Coventry
« on: Tuesday 08 November 11 19:14 GMT (UK)  »
I have been able to trace back my family tree, I have to William Coventry ( and Maria White) as my 3x great grandparents.

They came over to Scotland from Ireland, and married in Glasgow, in 1847.

I would be interested in any pointers ( or, indeed anyone following a similar line), to suggest where to look next.

Unfortunately when William and Maria subsequently died, their respective death certifcates were lacking in information. Suggesting their family were in the dark as to their earlier lives.

Yours

Gail

Scotland / Married on New Years Day.
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 18:40 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone throw some light on whether it was common practise to be married, in Scotland, on 1 st January?

I have recently come across another thread to follow, and find a marriage (certificate viewed on SP) as 1st January 1908, at St Augustine's Coatbridge!

Would love to know!

Many thanks

Lanarkshire / LOOKING FOR DESCENDANTS OF JOHN AND HELEN(HUGHES) COVENTRY.
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 00:35 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered another branch to my family tree.

Looking on SP, I have found a marriage between JOHN PENDER COVENTRY AND ELLEN(HELEN) HUGHES,1st January 1908, at St Augustines Church, Coatbridge.

John and Ellen also had a daughter MARY HUGHES COVENTRY,born 27th January, 1909. And a son WILLIAM COVENTRY, born 14th March, 1910.

I have these definates from SP, but am certain, that William and Ellen added to their family.

John's brother, William, was my  great grandfather. William and John's parents were William Coventry and Mary, ms Pender.

Hope that someone has a link to this branch of my family.

Regards

Gail.

Ireland / COVENTRY
« on: Wednesday 01 September 10 20:22 BST (UK)  »
I have a William Coventry, married Maria White, as my 3x gt grandparents.

They arrived in Scotland, where they married. On census returns, they site Ireland, as place of birth.

1881 census has William and Maria living at Low Carnegie House, Kilmacolm.
William is a Blacksmith.

William and Maria's ages are given as 55, and 50, respectively.

I have a marriage for William and Maria, in Glasgow.

Sorry for late edit, but now have found marriage record for William and Maria.
They married 28th December 1847. They were living in the Calton/Barony area of Glasgow, at time of marriage.

Can anyone give me more information regarding Coventry's having lived in Ireland, c 1800S?

Many thanks
