Ancestry.com has just made available a number of transcribed cemeteries, one being Cambridge, Guernsey, Ohio's old cemetery, which has a wealth of information on some of the tombstones. we have no Brit's in Cambridge, but my fiance's family was from there and I noticed some great tombstones with information on them that may help someone else. I'm transcribing them verbatum so nothing's left out, and I've listed family associated with them, whether born in England or U.S.....anyone who wants to take the time and trouble to post these to the various county lists, is welcome to...I am under the weather at this time so am just posting them in the emmigration list.

remember, they are buried in Cambridge, and one assumes they died there...

Peter CORBETT
born on the isle of Guernsey
died March 1, 1835
in the 73rd year of his age

Elizabeth
wife of Peter CORBETT
died Sep 1839
in the 41st year of her age

Elizabeth CORBETT
died Jan 24 1880
Aged 76y 8mo 13d

Rev. John ROWCLIFFE
Born in England
Died in Cambridge Jul 3 1836
aged about 25 years

Thomas SARCHET
born in Isle of Guernsey, Europe Jun 29 1770
settled in Cambridge Jul 1806
d. Apr 21 1837

I don't know if these people are related to Thomas Sarchet, no data is listed, just their names on one stone, and I don't know if the stone is near Thomas's stone;

Ann Sarchett, Rachel M. Sarchett, James Bichard

there may be others, but if so, their places of birth were not listed.

one person who's place of birth was not listed died in 1826, aged 107 years. his name was Thomas Bell.

sadly, none of my fiance's people are listed, though they were there from around 1810-1870...maybe they were buried on the farm just outside of the city limits at the time...

Antrim / Thornton in Belfast
« on: Monday 31 December 07 07:50 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information on this family;
Nicholas Thornton m. Catherine and they had a son James who was born on 10 Nov 1835 in Belfast.
James came to America and settled in Worcester, Massachusetts where he married a Leitrim lass named Ellen Flynn.
I would love to learn more about Nicholas and his family and ancestry. he's not in Griffith's valuation.

Antrim / Nicholas Thornton of Belfast
« on: Monday 31 December 07 06:38 GMT (UK)  »
this is all I know about Nicholas. he m. a Catherine and they had at least one child, James, b. 10 Nov 1835 in Belfast.
James came to America and settled in Worcester Co., Massachusetts where he married on 3 Jan 1878 to Ellen Flynn who was born 26 Dec 1854 in Leitrim, Ireland, the daughter of Terence Flynn and Bridget.
James may have married previous to Ellen as I find a James Thornton b. 1835 Ireland in the 1870 Worcester, MA census with a wife Margaret Franzen and 3 children. we don't know what happened to Margaret and the children.
James and Ellen had at least 8 children, Katherine Marie aka Katy, Ella, Anna Elizabeth, Helen aka Nellie, Jane, Margaret Gertrude, Nicholas F. and John aka Johnny.
can anyone fill out this family tree?

The Common Room / Charles W. Andrews
« on: Sunday 11 November 07 05:30 GMT (UK)  »
newly added to my tree, he was born October 1850 somewhere in England. I find 4 possible arrivals in New York  for him, most of them in 1871, one in 1882. he married into my tree in 1887 in Stark Co., Ohio. It appears he came alone, as an adult. he married Celesta/Celestina Cross. they had a large family of 10 known children....
which of the many Charles W. Andrews b. abt 1850 in England is he?

One Name Studies: H to M / Hawkins of Essex
« on: Friday 26 October 07 20:55 BST (UK)  »
I and several others are interested in this group, and would love to hear from you. we're looking to expand on the family listed here, I can give descendancy on one line but I know there's lots more out there.

we are looking for Hawkins in Finchingfield, Helion Bumpstead, Coggeshall , Chelmsford* and Colchester and I'm certain other places will crop up in time.

William Hawkins m. Priscilla Salmon in Finchingfield, either 1676 or, as I believe, 1667.

in the Essex monthly meeting records (Quaker) I find 3 children of William and Priscilla Hawkins of Coggeshall.
in a nutshell, they are
Mary 1668
Sarah 1670
Will 1672
then there's a space, and we find 4 children of William and Priscilla Hawkins of Helion Bumpstead
John 1677
Christopher 1682
Priscilla 1685
Matthew 1686
there may be others, but this is all we've found so far without looking at any pr's other than Quaker ones.
here's the situation-all of the Helion Bumpstead male children removed to Colchester and are also in the Essex monthly meeting records. not their births, all but one are married there, and all of them have children recorded there. I know that Helion Bumpstead had a Quaker meeting house, but don't have access to those records at this time...I'm almost certain that they will show up in those records.

*there is also a Christopher Hawkins b. 1636 Chelmsford who m. 1674 Grt Coggeshall to Mary Guyon. he was the son of John. perhaps Christopher is a brother of William.

as mentioned above, this is just what I have in a nutshell, as far as most of the Quaker records go.

Essex / finchingfield pr's

does anyone have these? can you check for a marriage? one record says William Hawkins and Priscilla Salmon m. in 1676 but I think they married in 1667-either that or two William Hawkins m. two Priscilla's, and that would just muddle things all that much more.
thanks in advance

Essex Lookup Requests / Rayner of Harwich...or Halstead?
« on: Sunday 07 October 07 07:51 BST (UK)  »
in my 7x great grandmother's marriage record of 1680, she claims that she is of Harwich.
would some kind soul check Harwich records and see if there's a baptism for a Susannah Rayner about 1655?
I don't have further information at this time, other than the fact that she married in the Quaker faith which is in the Colchester Quaker records.
thank you
