World War Two / WW2 and WAAF's
« on: Monday 24 August 09 08:30 BST (UK)  »
hello everyone, I have been absent for quite some time but hope to delve back into my family history again. Hope I am posting to the right forum. Info from an aged aunt tells me that my mother served in the WAAF and I am hoping that "inside info" might tell me a little more.
Her name was Alice DODDS maiden name GASCOIGNE.She was born 1923 and married my Dad Robert DODDS (who was in the RN during WW2) on 3rd jan 1942.I have a wedding photo of Dad in uniform and Mam in Civvies.. What I don't know is whether they married before/during or after her service, or whether married women could in fact serve.
I really would appreciate more facts and will be attempting to obtain her service records later. Both my parents are deceased(my mother died when I was only 9 in 1957 so have little memory to call on.)I would be very grateful for any little "bits"that could help me.Thank you.

Durham Lookup Requests / Parish Records Christ Church Gateshead - DODDS
« on: Thursday 04 September 08 06:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello from Oz. Could I beg a look-up of the Christ Church, Gateshead Parish Registers , baptisms for the period 1902-1922 for children born to Robert DODDS and Frances(Annie)ADAMSON. I have two baptisms- my Granda Robert,1899 and his brother Jacob Adamson DODDS 1902 but the next entries are on FreeBMD between  1914-1920 (although I have it on fairly good authority that there were some children born inbetween plus another about 1922).Maybe I am wrong to assume that they would all have been baptised at Christ Church but as all the children were registered in Gateshead I am hopeful.Thank you so much.Regards Marilyn

Durham Completed Look up Requests / GASCOIGNE births and deaths
« on: Saturday 30 October 04 06:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone. I have just found out this week that my Mam had 2 sisters and one brother that I hadn't heard of.I have checked FreeBMD and family search and can't locate their births, and wonder if SKS can tell me where else I can check . They were all born and died in Gateshead, births from about 1903 and deaths 1914,1928 and 1932.My information stems from obits sent to me from Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
Looking to connect with any family members, thought to be in Gateshead and Whickham.
Thank you, Marilyn in Orbost, Victoria OZ
