London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Gibson - missing in 1851
« on: Saturday 08 December 07 03:10 GMT (UK)  »
In 1861 I have:

Martha Gibson, b. 1821 in either Devonport or Plymouth living in Poplar with husband Edward, bricklayer, b. Woolwich Kent, abt. 1808 with children:
Samuel, Blacksmith, b. Jersey 1845
Cecelia b. Stonehouse, Devon 1846
Elenor b. Islington, 1853 Middlesex plus other later children born Middlesex
(RG9 P.306 F.7 P.7)

I have them on every Census through to 1901 and subsequent death, but cannot find them at all in 1851.

Could a fresh pair of eyes find them please?

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Birth/Marriage Look Up 1841-1845 - Jersey
« on: Wednesday 05 December 07 14:38 GMT (UK)  »
I have Martha Edbrook(e) born 1821 in either Devonport or Plymouth (censuses vary).  In 1841 she was unmarried and with her family in Plymouth

Edward Gibson was born about 1808 in Woolwich, Kent and 1841 unmarried and  living in London

In the 1861 UK Census they are together with son Samuel born about 1845 in Jersey.    Also, there is no marriage record that I can find on BMD in UK so I presume they married in Jersey.  Could someone look these up for me please.

Their next child was born September 1846 in Devon so they did not stay in Jersey for long

Thank you

Armed Forces / British Army in India late 1880s
« on: Tuesday 02 October 07 18:09 BST (UK)  »
I have just found my great grandfathers Army records and discharge papers.  I find he was stationed in India from 1892 to 1898 and from 1900 to 1903.  He was with the Hampshire Regiment.  One child is recorded as being born in Lucknow in 1902, there is another which is indecipherable.

Where would I find birth records of children born to soldiers in India, also are there Censuses which include Army personnel?

Does anyone know any websites which details what like was like in India for the wives and families of Servicemen?

I only found this information yesterday so am quite excited by it  :)

Also, on his medical examination papers he is described as having "a Mothers mark on his left buttock"  Any idea what this could mean?

Can anyone help on this please?  In 1861 Ann Nicholls, born 1838 Monkleigh, was a servant for a blacksmith called Stevens in Bideford.  Also living there was a William Gidry or Giddy.  It is him I am searching for information on.  Apart from his name? I have no further information.

Thanks

My Grandmother (Nicholls) m. 1912 (Heath)  in Merthry T. district.  My mother was born Bedlinog 1913.  I am assuming my Grandmother prior or after marriage  moved from Llandaff to Bedlinog to stay with her Aunt (Nicholls) who married J. Teagle. who were certainly living in Bedlinog from 1910 onwards.  I may be wrong and they may have moved in with the Heath family.  Does anyone have any knowledge of a family called Heath in Bedlinog or can suggest where I may search (I am new to family research)
