Monaghan / Visiting Monaghan Sept.2007 - advice re family research please?
« on: Monday 27 November 06 07:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi listers,   I have found several ancestors in the Clones Rent Rolls of 1821 and believe that both sides of my family came from Monaghan County.   Next year I will visit Ireland and would love some advice on the best way to tackle this research to achieve maximum results in the few weeks available.   Names I am researching include:  GORDON, LEMON , MARTIN, LEE, HARBISON, WILLIAMSON, SCHOLES, HALL, GILLANDERS.   Any suggestions will be much appreciated.   Elizabeth

Monaghan / LEMON

:-\Can anyone shed any light please on the family of John LEMON (b. 1846 cc).   All I know about John (according to the 1901 census records) is that he was a farmer, a Presbyterian and head of the family, living at Killycronaghan, Monaghan;  he could read and write.   I know he married Harriett Anne WILLIAMSON (b. 1850 cc) but nothing else.   Parents and siblings for John LEMON would be a great help and much appreciated.   Thankyou in anticipation.

Monaghan / Francis LEE
« on: Friday 24 November 06 02:52 GMT (UK)  »
Another dead end I have experienced in my family history is with Francis LEE (b. 1825 cc) of County Monaghan.   A son John LEE (b. 1849) was married to Sarah HALL (b. 1867 at Edenagoash) on 03.12.1889 at the C. of I., Killeevan, Co. Monaghan.   Francis is listed as being John's father on the Marriage certificate and a Thomas LEE (hopefully a brother) was one of the witnesses.   John and Sarah lived out their lives at Gortgranard, Annalore, Co. Monaghan.   John LEE had emigrated to the U.S.A. as a young man but returned to marry Sarah HALL as a 40 year old.   Who was his mother?   Does anyone have any more information on Francis or other siblings for John LEE?   Thankyou in anticipation!   Elizabeth Gresty.

Monaghan / SCHOLES family

:-*One of my brick walls concerns the SCHOLES family -  James SCHOLES (b. 1815 cc) had a daughter Matilda Jane SCHOLES (b. 1841 cc at Killyfuddy)and probably another daughter Maria.   Matilda married John MARTIN (b. 1840 at Ballyblogh) on 01.06.1866 at Newbliss Presbyterian Church when one of the witnesses was a Maria SCHOLES.   James SCHOLES was a farmer as was the MARTIN family.   Any information on this SCHOLES family would be much appreciated.  Elizabeth Gresty, W.A.

Monaghan / 1901 Census - GORDON- COMPLETED
« on: Friday 24 November 06 02:28 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if some kind person could find my Grandfather Robert Henry GORDON (B. 1853 cc) at the time of the 1901 census in Monaghan.   On the 25th December that year he married a Margaret LEMON at the Civil Registrar's Office in Clones.   Robert Henry's parents were John GORDON and Jane HARBISON and his siblings were Joe, William James, Maggie, Jane and Tillie Ann GORDON.   Census results for the whole family would be much appreciated.   Elizabeth, W.
